How to align preprinted paychecks

You can adjust alignment of and print preprinted paychecks in QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced.

Align and print your preprinted check stock

Note: Preprinted check stock must be compatible with QuickBooks. You can purchase check stock from Intuit. Also, you must use voucher-style check stock, preprinted with your bank and company information, with the actual check in the upper third and the stub in the bottom two-thirds.

Here's how to align and print your preprinted check stock:

  1. Select the Gear icon on the Toolbar, then Payroll Settings.
  2. In the Preferences, select Paycheck Printing Settings, then choose Preprinted QuickBooks-compatible voucher check stock.
  3. Select Print 2 stubs or Print 1 stub, then OK.
  4. Select Open Alignment Window.Print alignment window in QuickBooks Online
  5. Close the pop-up window, then select Align Checks.Align checks in QuickBooks printer setup
  6. Print the alignment page on plain paper.
  7. Stack your printout on a piece of preprinted check stock. (Tip: Hold them up to a light to check the positioning.)
  8. Follow the instructions on the paper after printing, then choose the best fit letter and number.Paper size print instructions in QuickBooks Online
  9. Select Update Settings, then OK.

Printing scenarios you may encounter

The following are some of the scenarios that you may encounter when printing preprinted pay chques

Printing too high

Choose a letter further down the list to move the information down the page. For example, if the current letter in the field for Which letter appears just above the Pay to the Order of line? is L, enter a letter from M - X that moves the information down enough to align with your check stock. (This is the line where the employee's name is printed.)

Printing too low

Choose a letter further up the list to move the information up the page. For example, if the current letter in the field for Which letter appears just above the Pay to the Order of line? is L, enter a letter from A - K that moves the information up enough to align with your check stock. (This is the line where the employee's name is printed.)

Printing too far left

Choose a higher number on the list to move the information to the right of the page. For example, if the current number in the field for Which number appears completely to the right of the dollar sign? is 5, enter a number from 6 - 9 that moves the information right enough to align with your check stock.

Printing too far right

Choose a lower number on the list to move the information to the left of the page. For example, if the current number in the field for Which number appears completely to the right of the dollar sign? is 5, enter a number from 0 - 4 that moves the information left enough to align with your check stock.
