How do I undo a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online when I can't find the Accounting menu?

The steps don't match your screen because the menu labels in QuickBooks Online differ depending on your view, so skip the hunt for an "Accounting" menu: select Settings (the gear icon), then Chart of accounts, and you're where the reconciled transactions live. From there you can unreconcile transactions yourself, and as of 2026 a primary admin or a user with the In-house accountant role can undo an entire reconciliation in one step.

First, get to the right place

The gear-icon path works no matter which menu layout you see.

Select Settings (the gear icon in the upper right).
Select Chart of accounts.
Find the bank account, then select View register.

Two other ways in, if you prefer: type "chart of accounts" or "reconcile" into the global search on your homepage to jump straight to the page, or switch to Accountant view from Settings to get the left menu with "Accounting" and "Transactions" that most instructions assume. Undo a transaction yourself

Unreconciling a single transaction takes three clicks in the register.

In the register, select a reconciled transaction (it shows R) to expand it.
In the checkmark column, select the box until it's blank (it cycles R, then C, then blank).

@Edward-McCrea From what I've seen of similar posts on here, you'll need an accountant version of QBO to undo a reconciliation; I would assume you do not have that, and this is why you can't find the accounting menu.

The usual advice is to either unreconcile the transactions one at a time, or reach out to an accountant who does have the version and can reach over to your books to do it for you.
