Question

Large gap in bank feed

I’m missing about 8 months of imported bank feed. I’ve updated my bank connection. It is current with the last several months available but still has a large gap in banking activity. How do I recover the missing information? Do I risk unlinking then re-establishing the bank connection or would I lose all current data?

You can manually import those missing historical bank data into QuickBooks Online (QBO). By the way, you won't lose your current data by reconnecting your bank, but doing so might create duplicates as it re-pulls transactions that you may have already matched or categorized.

Before you visit your bank's website to download the statements containing the missing transactions, please note that QBO supports the following file formats: PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC, CSV, QFX, QBO, OFX, and TXT. After downloading the file, please follow these steps:

  1. In the Bank Transactions page, click on Upload from file in the dropdown menu next to the Link account option.
  2. Select Upload from this device and locate the downloaded bank file.
  3. Choose the right bank account and click Continue.
  4. Map your file data to the corresponding QuickBooks fields and then click Continue.
  5. Check the boxes for the missing data to avoid duplicates. If you accidentally downloaded any duplicates, simply exclude them.

Prior exporting and uploading your files, you may want to review the Prerequisites section in this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

If your bank only provides CSV files, check out this guide for proper formatting: Format CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.
