Besides the standard categories  - can we create new categories?

    Thanks for reaching out with your question regarding QuickBooks Self-Employed. I know how convenient it would be to have the ability to categorize things the way you'd like in your bookkeeping. 

     

    QuickBooks Self-Employed has provided categories that we believe can suit any transaction. At this time, you're unable to add new categories, and you'll have to select an option from the list as it's shown in your account. 

     

    I can appreciate that this is something that would greatly benefit you and your business needs, so I'd be happy to submit your feedback about this to the proper team. We're always looking for ways to improve our products, and this would be a great idea.

    There are expenses such as auto lease and auto insurance, that can't go under motor vehicle expenses because auto lease and auto insurance have a line item required on the CRA tax form and can't be lumped under s single category? I am wrong in this statement. Why not allow custom categories?

      Thanks for joining us here. Being able to accurately categorize your transactions is essential to keep your books precise. I can see how customizing categories could be a useful tool for the running of your business. At this moment, this feature is not available in QuickBooks Self-Employed. To ensure you're staying compliant to the CRA when managing your books, I'd recommend talking to your accountant. If you'd benefit from additional options in organizing categories, feel free to leave feedback for our product development team in the app by going to the Gear icon and scrolling to Help. When the chat opens up, type feedback and what you'd like to share and it'll be passed to the team.

      Inventory, prototype molds and pieces, there are numerous things we are having to enter into a separate spreadsheet in order to track everything.
