How do you close a paye scheme please

Hi isabel-bidwellac, are you using the Standard or the Advanced payroll within QuickBooks? 

 

Currently, it's only possible to cease the scheme using the Advanced payroll, and customers using the Standard payroll would need to inform HMRC of this using the free Basic Tools software. :woman_technologist: 

 

Edit * In Advanced  Payroll you can record the ceasing of the scheme through EPS as shown in the steps below

  1.  

    1. Go to Business overview, select Reports (Take me there).
    2. In Payroll HMRC Reports, select Employer Payment Summary (EPS).
    3. Select Submit EPS.
    4. Tick Final EPS for the tax year.
    5. Tick This is the final EPS because the PAYE scheme has ceased.
    6. Select the date the scheme ceased on.
    7. Select Submit EPS.

I can share some information about closing your PAYE scheme, @isabel-bidwellac.

 

You can use the HMRC's basic PAYE tools to close your PAYE scheme. To guide you with the process, refer to the following link: https://www.gov.uk/basic-paye-tools

hi i have just spoken to HMRC and they said I should be able to close the scheme on QB's ?

If you have Advanced payroll how do you close a PAYE scheme - I am not seeing it, apologies in advance if it is obvious!

How do you close a paye scheme please

I telephoned your team on 5th to explain that I too wanted to close 2 UK Payroll schemes for clients I had issued the P45's and was told that I could do this.  I was asked what Payroll package I was using and told her that I was using standard at no point was I told that I would need to use HMRC's free download.  We did the payroll together and she got me to check to see if, in reports, was being requested or shown as overdue - as this was not showing she told me to wait a while for it to update and we agreed on 2 days - now in the help section I find that I cannot close via Quickbooks - I was told a couple of years ago that this facility would be added to all Quickbooks packages as I queried for another client then.  Why is this basic facility not available our clients are paying for this service before moving over to QB I used an alternative package which had this as a standard from day one!

 

Now I have to contact HMRC to find out how they wish me to proceed - not happy and would not recommend the payroll to my clients in the future
