Buy now & saveHave a Server we installed QuickBooks Enterprise 24.0 - Windows Server 2022. We are unable to get multi-user mode working. When we try to open, comes up with H202 error.
Things we've tried;
- Uninstalling and clean reinstall
- Recreating the ND file
- Installing full QB Desktop app, Stop hosting, start hosting
- Created new QB Database file
- Scanned folders with QB Database Manager
- Changed port
- Reviewed the ND file, does NOT have the right engine name or port, but no other versions of QB are installed on this system.
- Manually changing ND file to reflect correct "database server" setting - still not working.
- Running FileDoctor and using QB Tool Hub.
Any ideas? I really don't want to have to do a wipe and reload on this server to fix this.

Figured this issue out.
We did not have control of the network's router - so the DHCP/DNS was hosted on the router owned by the internet provider.
Because QB clients require access to the server both via IP and hostname, we had to either adjust where the DNS was or edit the host file on the Windows machine. We wound up adjusting the host file on the two broken Windows clients. (Which we had to copy the hosts file from c :\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.file to another location, edit, then copy back & replace existing.)
Once we did this, multi-user mode worked perfectly.
I appreciate the actions you’ve taken to rectify the H202 error in QuickBooks Enterprise multi-user mode, @mhn8339. I've got some additional troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue. Allow me to discuss this further below.
To begin with, the H202 error in QuickBooks typically occurs when there are problems with the multi-user hosting setup, such as incorrect hosting configuration settings or issues with the Database Server Manager. You can try the following troubleshooting steps:
Solution 1: Check the service on your server
Note: If you use the full version of QuickBooks on your server computer, first turn on multi-user hosting.
Make sure QuickBooks services are running on your server computer. Follow these steps to check QuickbooksDBXX. Then repeat them for QBCFMonitorService.
When you’re done, open QuickBooks on each workstation. Go to the File menu and select Switch to Multi-user Mode. If everything opens correctly, the problem is fixed.

Try opening the sample file in the multiuser mode. Did you encounter the same problem?
We had them create a new QB file, had issues on this too.
Changing some settings on the services did not resolve the issue, I have tried this.
I've compared two devices - one functioning multi-user mode device, and the problem one. The problem one is having SOME sort of issue that isn't shook out by clean reinstall. The ND file has the incorrect database name and port number versus the one that's displayed in the Database Manager.
