My Payroll Updates does not complete. I get Error 15243. "File Exists".

Hi there, @nyaweh.

I appreciate you for raising your concern here on the Community page. I can share with you the solutions on how to fix the Error 15243.

Usually, QuickBooks Error 15243 happens when Intuit File Copy Service (FCS) service is disabled. And, is affected by the following:

A corrupt download/ incomplete QuickBooks installation.
Corruption in the Windows registry because of the recent QuickBooks software change, probably an installation or Uninstalling it.
Intuit FCS Service is not running.
Anti-Virus is blocking access to download the latest file.

To get started, make sure to create a backup copy of your company file to save your data.

Once done, let's proceed with enabling the QuickBooks Desktop FCS. Here's how:

Tap on Windows+R keys together from your keyboard to open Run window.
Type COMPMGMT.MSC into the Run command and hit on OK.
Now Computer Management Window will open then press on Services and Applications.
Then tick on Services.
Now scroll the cursor down, until you found Intuit QuickBooks FCS and make a double click on it.
Click on Startup type and choose Manual.
Then click Apply.
Press on OK.

After that, I recommend revalidating the payroll's service key to refresh the connection.

Go to Employees at the top menu bar.
Choose My Payroll Service.
Then select Activate Service Key.
Under the Service Keys window highlight the current payroll and select Edit.
Click on Next until finish comes up.

I went through each step and it continues to show the error message

I know this has impacted your workflow in QuickBooks Desktop, but there is currently an ongoing issue in the program.

We received several reports about the program displaying the error “The file you specified cannot be opened” and “The file exists” when updating payroll. Our engineers are notified about this and are now working on the fix as soon as possible.

Open QuickBooks and click the Help menu.
Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
On the pop-up screen select Contact us.
Click the Search for Something else button then type your concern in the Ask us anything box.

I get an error code of 15243 when updating. We are not using payroll--it is done by another party. Writing checks is all we do now. The yearly fee has already been paid, I will need to cancel this so it is not auto withdrawn for the next withdrawal period. However, with it being paid for this year, I was still wanting to update

Let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps to resolve this. To start, let's update QuickBooks via a web browser. This ensures the program will run in its full capacity, and avoid missing components.

Here's how:

Go to: https://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/Support/ProductUpdates.aspx.
Enter the necessary information.
Select Search.
Select Get updates.
Save the downloaded file on your Windows desktop.
Open the file.
Follow the onscreen instruction to install the file.
Once done, restart your computer.

After that, download and run the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This repairs any damaged data that might cause the problem.
