QBO to Desktop Conversion

It's good to see you here, @mreller.

At the moment, there's no issue raised about users from Boulder, Colorado unable to convert QuickBooks Online (QBO) back to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

However, I'll share the steps on how to perform it. First, let's get the migration tool to go back to QBDT, this can accessed by changing the URL for QBO in your browser.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online using a supported web browser.
  2. In the URL bar, replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt (it should look like this: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt).
  3. On the Export overview screen, click the Get Started button.
  4. Click the Download tool button to download the migration tool.
  5. After downloading, launch the installer and run it.
  6. Follow the prompts to complete the installation process.

After that, go back to QBO and prepare the export process for migration.

You can follow these steps:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Online account and click the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose Export Data and enter your reason why you're exporting your data. Then, click Continue.
  3. Review your data from the export overview screen. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
  4. In the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to Download.
  5. Then, follow the rest of the on-screen instructions to complete the exporting process.

For detailed info, you can review this article: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

You might want to verify and check your data after the migration process, or if you need a refresher on running reports, we can take a look at this article: Understand reports.

Don't hesitate to come back here if you have additional questions about converting your file. I'll be happy to assist you. Thank you and keep safe.

QBO to Desktop Conversion

@Bryan_M  RE: Yes, it's possible in your Boulder, Colorado to convert QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

What? That makes no sense. Do you even know what you're saying? Also, you didn't answer the question.

The question is: "Has anyone in the Boulder, CO area successfully converted..."

You very likely have no way to answer that question, since you are not in the Boulder, CO area, or even in the USA, and you have no idea if anyone in the area has done the conversion.

QBO to Desktop Conversion

Moving from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop might seem like a big step, and it's completely understandable to feel a little apprehensive, LT565. It's a significant change, but let's focus on how we can make this a smooth and successful transition.

Let's get started moving your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop. First, we'll download the migration tool. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to the Export Overview page.
  3. Click Get Started.

  4. Hit Download (keep your browser window open).

  5. Install the tool, agreeing to the license terms.

Now, let's export your QuickBooks Online data. Here's how:

  1. In the Step 1: Prepare to export page, click Continue.
  2. Choose what to export: "All financial data" or "All financial data without transactions" (note: product quantities aren't included in either option). Then click Continue.

  3. In the Step 3: Request your data section, select Continue.

  4. Provide your Name and Email address and click Continue.
  5. Choose Close, then you'll receive an email confirmation (this might take some time, depending on the amount of data). Check your QuickBooks Online homepage for updates.
  6. Once the export is ready (check your email or QBO homepage), return to the export section. Instructions for downloading should be provided.
  7. Select Download the QBXML file and save it to your desktop, then hit Continue.

Finally, let's import your data into QuickBooks Desktop using the migration tool:

  1. Open the migration tool and select Browse to locate your QBXML file, then hit Open.
  2. Open QuickBooks Desktop and in the No Company Open screen, choose Create a new company. Select the option for individual use.
  3. During setup, choose Sign in Later dropdown (you can select a date for this).
  4. In the migration tool, select Import, choose the file location and name the file, then hit Save.
  5. In the application certificate, select Yes, always allow access even if QuickBooks is not running
  6. Update your business information in QuickBooks Desktop, then sign in.
  7. In the Sign In Later dropdown, select In 2 Days, then select OK. The import process will now begin. Once complete, click Done.

For a detailed comparison of your exported and imported data, kindly visit the Check if the data exported matches section on this article: Move data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

You can also find more in-depth information about the migration process on this material: Learn how data moves from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

@LT565  Mm... probably the same reason it would be difficult to unspill a glass of milk.

Theoretically possible, but you'd definitely lose quite a bit of the milk in the process no matter how you go about it.

Quickbooks refuses to help with this migration stating this tool is no longer supported. as of 3-4 months ago. And tried to redirect you to a paid third party service.  Time for quickbooks rein to end.

@NoGoodSoftwareSP

Why do you need to convert your data to QB Desktop? Do you just need to export data to TurboTax or else?
