Check Printing Alignment Issue

We recently migrated to quickbooks online advanced from quickbooks desktop 2021 accountant edition. We have had issues with getting our check alignment working like it did with the desktop , where details in the stub section are being cutout and if we adjust to fit the stub section for the voucher the top is off and vice versa.

The checks are brought from quickbooks so they arent the issue. Right now our end user has to manually redo the checks alignment in Adobe for every check which takes up time and can be prone to human error. When we do the fine tune alignment the sample it prints looks fine , we save the alignment but when we go to print the check and do a preview and print we see the details in the stub missing words. Also changed the printer settings to the quickbooks recommended settings and also tried a few things with support who have been no help in getting a resolution and redirect me to either give feedback which i have and post in the community.

I appreciate the steps you've done to resolve the printing issue, jhhadmin.

Let's ensure that the Adobe reader is updated to the latest release. This can be the reason why you're experiencing printing issues. If it's updated, let's repair the Adobe reader. Here's how:

  1. Close Acrobat/Reader and all open web browser windows.
  2. Select the Start button at the bottom left of your screen.
  3. Type Control Panel, then press Enter.
  4. Select Programs and Features.
  5. Select Acrobat or Adobe Reader, then Uninstall/Change.
  6. In the Setup dialog box, select Next.
  7. Select Repair, then Next.
  8. Select Install.
  9. When the process is complete, select Finish.
  10. Restart your computer.

Once done, print the checks again.

You can also take a look at this article for some tips on resolving printing issues: Test sequence for PDF printing issues.

I've also added this link as your guide in printing checks: Create and record checks.

The attached pdf is an example of what we see when we want to actually print a check with details. the other information is redacted on it, but I have arrows pointing to the areas that are overlapping or just cutoff. The top is fine and aligned to the voucher, but the bottom is askew. and if we move things to the left that ruins the top voucher part.

Thanks for the laughs.

There appears to be no way to correct the alignment problem.  I thought it was just me.

The new security features of the QB 2022 are welcome but, otherwise, the prior package was better.

I was convinced by a sales rep that QBO would be WAY better for us than QB Desktop so we made the plunge and converted everything over only to find that we CAN'T PRINT CHECKS.  That seems like a huge upgrade right?!?!  The best part is they new this was a problem but did't say anything!

Hi Recc-2019,

Printing checks is one of the features that QuickBooks Online provides and is used by thousands of our clients. There may be a few alignment concerns due to browser issues, non-upgraded PDF readers, or incompatible printer drivers, but we can look into them so you can use the feature. Let me help you out.

The first that you can do do is update your Adobe Reader as this is being used by QuickBooks in printing check transactions.

  1. Select + New.
  2. Select Print checks.
  3. Select Print setup.
  4. Select No, continue setup.
  5. Select the latest version of the Reader link. This takes you to Adobe’s page where you can download the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
  6. After installing Acrobat, go back to QuickBooks. Then select the How? link to set Adobe Reader as your browser’s default PDF viewer.
  7. Go back to QuickBooks and select View preview and print sample. Then select Print.
  8. Follow the on-screen steps to finish printing your sample check.
  9. Check the alignment of your sample against a blank check.

If updating your Adobe won't resolve the issue, you can follow Steps 3 and 4 in this article: Configure your print settings for printing checks in QuickBooks Online.

I understand that this wasn't an easy experience for you, but know that we're just around to always help you with printing and any other concerns with QuickBooks. Have a good one.
