Buy nowQuickbooks began behaving strangely so I did a data verification, which found errors. At this time I did a rebuild data and received a "The operation could not be completed. No other information is available about the problem" error message. It destroys my file - takes it from over 300 mb to 100, and I can no longer open it. I have gone back about a week's worth of backups and all the backup restorations result in the same errors. It is getting very frustrating for many reasons and I need some advice. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
This error originates with an outdated release of QuickBooks Desktop, MrsJetSet. Let's get everything updated and fixed so you can get back to business.
First, I'd recommend updating your QuickBooks to the latest release. This will fix any damaged components and bugs that exist on your current version. Then, you can try verifying and rebuilding your company file again.
If rebuilding your company file took 2+ hours, you can contact our Technical Support Team. They have a tool that allows them to review your QuickBooks and your company file. You can reach them using this link: Get help with QuickBooks products and services.
You can follow Solutions 2 and 3 in the following article if you encounter the same error: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
Please don't forget to create recent backups once the issue is fixed.
Please share any progress on this query so we can further assist you.
While I appreciate your help, my Quickbooks is up to date, and I cannot use the file repair tool because it's for Windows files only, and I am working on a Mac. I did not state that explicitly as it I thought I was posting with that tag. My apologies.
Unexpected behavior during the rebuilding process can occur due to insufficient memory allocation, MrsJetSet.
To further isolate the issue, run the Rebuild utility locally on the host computer with the most physical RAM. It's also recommended to restart the machine before performing the process as this helps free up memory.
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Live Support team. They can assist you in completing the rebuild process and provide appropriate solutions.

@TrixieD RE: For the rebuild process to complete, it is generally recommended to run this on a PC with the most RAM, MrsJetSet.
That's completely unhelpful. Among other things, 1) QuickBooks Desktop for Windows will not open a QuickBooks Mac company file, unless is has been converted to a Windows file by QuickBooks Mac. 2) The OP has indicated they can't open their file, and so (of course) they cannot convert it to a Windows file. 3) The OP probably doesn't have a Windows PC with QuickBooks sitting around waiting to fix the file.
Did you think this through at all? Even the tiniest little bit? It seems not.

Also, there is no such thing as "a PC with the most RAM". That also makes no sense at all.
---------------
Also, are you admitting that Intuit knows that QuickBooks Mac's implementation of Condense is broken and won't "complete", and then instead of fixing it Intuit just blithely recommends that Mac users use QuickBooks for Windows instead? You know, the QuickBooks you've rather idiotically discontinued?
I have gone back about a week's worth of backups and all the backup restorations result in the same errors.
Open the sample file, create a backup file and restore it. Did you encounter the same problem?
It is not restoring from a backup that is the problem. The main file had some error in it that would not allow me to rebuild it. I went back through several backups and they all had the same issues. The last file I KNOW was good was from a couple of months ago when I had to convert my file for our accountant because I had to rebuild it before it would convert to a Windows file. I'd prefer not to have to redo all the work since then, but the only thing Quickbooks says is to buy the next version that doesn't exist so they can fix the file because I am using an "unsupported version."
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
Quickbooks for Mac 2020
You can install the trial version of a supported version (2023 or 2024) to isolate the problem. Another option, you can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA directly. They can help repair corrupted files.
Thank you for that suggestion - I did do that, but it won't convert the file because of whatever the issue is. I'll definitely get in touch with your suggestion to see if they can help as Quickbooks is not interested in helping, only selling "upgraded" products that I don't need.
