Locking your books is easy in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @RC48. I'm happy to share a few insights about this and show you how to do this accordingly.
Closing your books is performed every end of a fiscal year. This prevents unwanted changes to your accounting data that could affect your financial reports.
Before doing so, I recommend reviewing your accounts and making sure the information is accurate. Then, whenever you're ready, sign in to your QBO account as a primary or company admin and follow these steps:
Go to the Gear icon.
Select Accounts and settings.
Choose the Advanced tab.
Click anywhere in the Accounting section to view its details.
Enable the Close the books option.
Enter a closing date. Give yourself a comfortable deadline. You shouldn't need to edit any transactions before this date. Your new bookkeeping work will start after this point.
Select the Allow changes after viewing a warning and entering a password option from the drop-down menu if you want to require a password before editing your closed books.
Click Save and then Done.
Also, to further guide you about the things you need to do in QBO to close out the previous year and prepare for the new one, I would encourage you to check out this article: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Online.

I've also added our page about reports and accounting which I'm sure you'll find helpful. It contains related articles related to the accounting process and reports.
That'll do it. Let us know if you have other questions or concerns. We're always here to lend a hand. Thanks for posting and I wish you have a lovely day ahead.
