Hello Community Users! Just wanted to stop by and add some suggestions to try if your unable to submit the CIS return in Quickbooks Online, as the most common reasons why it is not submitting(assuming HMRC is not experiencing issues)

  • You may be using the wrong login details. Log into the HMRC website to confirm that your Government Gateway user ID and password are correct.
  • Make sure you're using the right 10-digit Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number.
  • Review that you're using the correct PAYE Reference number.
  • Check that your suppliers have the correct references and CIS setup:
    • Accounts Office reference number
    • Subcontractor UTR number
    • National Insurance (NI) number
    • Verification number
  • Delete any special characters and additional spaces in the subcontractor/contractor name field. Only use letters A-Z and numbers 0-9.

I want to ensure you're able to submit your CIS return directly from QuickBooks, @sarah-cain-adfin.

To start, let's perform some troubleshooting steps to fix this. There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, which causes some errors or unusual responses. Let's start accessing your account using a different or a private browser. You can use either of these shortcut keys:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

Then, submit your CIS. Once you have successfully done the process, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This is done to speed up the process next time you do a transaction in QuickBooks Online. Also, an alternative way is to use other compatible browsers.

I've also attached some articles you can refer to for your future guidance and detailed steps in managing your CIS:

Fill me in if you have other questions about submitting a CIS return. I'll be around to help you again. Keep safe and have a good one.

Hi there, @Frances w.

Please know this isn’t the kind of experience we want you to have. It seems that you've posted twice with the same concern here in the Community.

My colleague already shared some information you’ll have to consider when submitting CIS returns. She also included the right support that can help you with your tax concerns. You can refer to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-uk/transactions/re-i-keep-having-problems-submitting-...

If you have any other questions or clarifications within QuickBooks, leave a comment below. We're always here to help you. Take care.
