Does QuickBooks desktop create a direct deposit file that I can submit to our bank instead of having QuickBooks submit the deposits for us automatically?

Greetings, @EsigNEC.

When you run direct deposit payroll, QuickBooks electronically put an employee's wages directly into their bank account. The ability to create a direct deposit file and manually forward it to your bank is not available.

However, you can ask your bank about the specific file format of the document they need. Then, create a paper check in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. From the Review and Create Paychecks window while paying employees, select the Open Paycheck Detail button.
  2. Remove the checkmark  Use Direct Deposit tickbox.
  3. Select Save & Close.

Once created, you can view the Paycheck List.

I'm here to ensure everything is taken care of, @EsigNEC.

Did the information I've shared clarify how the direct deposit feature handles your employees' pay?  I can provide further assistance if you still encounter issues contacting them.

I'll be more than happy to assist you again. Have a great day and take care always.

No, it doesn't. (Wasn't that easy to write?)

If you want to do this, you can get a 3rd party app such as our BRC Direct Deposit File Creator

Among other features, it supports DD orders to up to 7 bank accounts per check as well as remainder checks, where only part of the check is sent via DD and then the check can be printed for the rest of the net pay.
