The problem is fixed if you don't encounter any issues while working with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). If you're still getting problems, I encourage reaching out to our Support Team to help you check and repair the files securely.

To contact support:

  1. Tap on QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  2. Type-in a short description of your concern from the search field, then click on Contact us.
  3. You can enter more details under the Tell us more about your question section, then click on the Search button.
  4. Click Start a Message button to connect with a representative.

My client sent me a back-up of his QB that needed to be up-graded.  I got the "this should be that" message because the system threw up that don't worry message and I should do the rebuild which I did.

It came back as seemingly all fixed but noting that "5163 should be 5205" which I have no idea what that means although I tried to learn to now avail.

I've now completed the QB up-grade for my client and now I'm ready to make a back-up to return to him to upload on his system.  Same problem occurred in terms of the pop-up "don't worry!" message saying the back-up couldn't be created yet but I should run the rebuild, which I did.

No longer did the report indicate "5163 should be 5205" (evidently thats resolved now) except suddenly the report claims "5265 should be 5308"

Can someone explain to me how I track these down so I know more precisely where these are occurring and perhaps how to avoid them?

Thanks!

Great for rebuilding the data while working with the client's file, Jain.

You're getting those error messages when there's minor damage to the company file. And, QuickBooks Desktop logs when you rebuild them through the QBWin.log file.

You can access the file on a local computer or in Windows. Let me show you how:

Option 1: Access QBWin.log from QuickBooks Product Information screen

  1. While on the Home page, press F2 or Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information window.
  2. Press F3 or Ctrl+2 to open the Tech Help window, then select the Open File tab.
  3. Select QBWin.log, then choose Open File.
Quick tip: Press Ctrl+F, then enter “Begin Verify” to find the last entry of Begin Verify on your log file.

Option 2: Access the QBWin.log in Windows

  1. Go to the location of QBWin.log using File explorer.
  2. Location: C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks\log\XX.X\QBWin.log
  3. In this path, XX.X represents your version of QuickBooks Desktop.

I've added this link: Find QBWin.log or QuickBooks.log files for additional information.

You can also refer to the Use the Accountant's Copy page to learn about its limitations in QuickBooks.
