Condense fails - can u help?

We use QB 2020 Enterprise Platinum in multi-user mode. It can take up to 15 minutes for a bill to record.

Attempting to condense the file.  The company file is 450MB with 125000 transactions.  It runs for over 36 hours then fails with unrecoverable error code 19859 15058.  Under guidance from QB Support, the company file had been verified, then rebuilt prior to attempting Condense.   First time through I tried to Condense anything more than 2 years old.  Second time through I tried to Condense only 1.5 years of activity (low transaction count).

Support was unable to explain what the error code means and went on to state that Condense function is not supported for troubleshooting, which left me dumfounded.

Can any offer any insights regarding the error code, or insights how I can effectively condense the data?  Any help appreciated.

Hi @GenTent,

Unrecoverable errors can have different numbers due to their random nature. I'll assist you in taking care of this error message.

Before we proceed further, I suggest you update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version

When ready, what you can do at this point is to run the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub

  1. Right after the download, follow the on-screen steps to install it.
  2. Open the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Tool Hub from your desktop screen.

Check out this article for more information about this tool: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub

On how you can deal with unrecoverable error codes, open this article for other steps you can take: Unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps

Feel free to tag me in the comments below if you have other questions with unrecoverable errors in QBDT. I'll help you out as soon as I can.

Hi Ryan

These steps you are recommending had already been done.  The complete sequence was to update Quickbooks under the techs guidance using the setting that forces a re-update since I was already on the latest V2020 level.  The company file I am using is from a recent backup. I backed up the production file, then restored it onto my local desktop.  Then I ran a verify that found no errors.  Then I ran a rebuild that took another backup and reported no errors as a result of the rebuild.  Then the Condense.  The Condense failed as explained above, so another tech had me download the latest toolhub and attempt to fix the company file.  The toolhub failed to fix the file, its message was the company file is not fixable.  Then the tech told me Intuit doesn't support the Condense utility.

thanks

@GenTent

Try creating a backup file, restore it with another name, and condense it.

Hi Asia,

Thank you for your reply.  This is exactly what I did - took a backup of the production file, recovered it to a new name on my local PC client and attempted the condense.  I outlined the detailed steps in my reply to Ryan above.

So I received a call from someone claiming to be with Quickbooks and ready to help from a 310 area code with Beverly Hills caller id. I explained the situation and that I had been directed to ask the Data Service to check the file.  After being on hold for 5-7 minutes he said he checked with the Data Service team and they do not deal with condense issues and instead he was going to contact a Pro Advisor to call me from a 3rd party.  The Pro Advisor called from a '315' area code claiming to have been referred by Quickbooks.  Both voices were foreign, the call quality in each was not good.  The pro advisor offered service for $1649.99 plus taxes and said they would truncate the file and said it would 2-3 hours.  I asked questions about how balances forward would work and he said he needed to get his tech on the phone (all the time asking me to commit).  I asked for a website and the one he gave matched the 315 area code but offers accounting services, not quickbooks file services.  I told him I understand what he's trying to do and said not interested and hung up.

Clearly this was a setup for a scam.  The fact the scammers are scraping these forums and preying on people, and Intuit doesn't seem to have a better secure community interface is yet another reason my confidence with Quickbooks is shattered.

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention, @GenTent

I appreciate you proving details about the suspicious call you received. This will set as an early warning for other QuickBooks users.

To prevent these scam phone calls happen again, I highly recommend not to include private information (such as email address, phone number, etc.) when posting here in the Community.

Also, to verify if the call you received is from Intuit, you can directly contact our phone support team. Use our QuickBooks Official Contact Us link. They can also review your account to check the recent phone calls received.

However, if you keep receiving this kind of phone call, you can report this information through our email. To guide you with the process, please head to the Reporting fraudulent calls or emails received from parties claiming to be affiliated with Intuit page.

For additional reference, see this article: How to recognize and report suspicious emails.

Feel free to post here again if you have other questions about fraudulent calls. I'm always here to help.

You may want to contact a 3rd party service that can look at repairing your file for you.

Was there ever a solution to this? We are facing virtually the same issue. Fixed all the errors in the verify/rebuild and condensing still fails without any information as to why. Negative inventory has been fixed. We used the File Doctor tool. This is in order to migrate to Quickbooks online. We don't feel like we've gotten much help from Quickbooks support in this process,

Another option, purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data to QB Online. Contact me in private for details.
