1099 NEC not printing correctly

Hi, I had QB pro 2018 and my 1099s didn't print correctly.  So I upgraded to desktop 2022 and they still aren't.  I have been on the phone all day  with them trying to fix this. My 1096 printed just fine but when I try to print the 1099s, there are huge spaces in between the lines. The company name printed fine, but the EINs are in the address box and the name of the subcontractors name is in the address line and the next one prints halfway down the page. I tried adjusting the alignment on the print menu but it made no difference.

1099 NEC not printing correctly

I appreciate your time in reaching out to us in the Community, Molly108.

I'd like to share some steps to help you with the alignment.

Seeing that you have upgraded to QuickBooks Desktop 2022, let's make sure to update the program to the latest release

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Update Now tab. Tip: You MUST select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  3. Select Get Updates to start the download.

When the download finishes, please restart QuickBooks and you get a prompt, accept the option to install the new release.

Once done, try to print your 1099 form again by following these steps:

  1. Create your 1099s in QuickBooks.
  2. In the Choose a filing method window, select the Print 1099-NEC or Print 1099-MISC button.
  3. Specify the date range for the forms then choose OK.
  4. Select all vendors you wish to print 1099s for.
  5. Click the Print 1099 button.
  6. Confirm your printer settings then hit Print.

I've got this article for reference: Print your 1099 forms.

If you're still having issues with the alignment, You'll want to try the other solutions shared in this article: Print 3-part 1099s in QuickBooks Desktop

In addition, let me share this article to help you with the year-end task: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep me posted on how it goes from your end. I want to make sure this is resolved for you. Take care and stay safe.

When I went to help, a BIG screen appears and I can't read it. That doesn't seem like it would work because the help menu takes me to the internet!

1099 NEC not printing correctly

Thanks for getting back with the Community, Molly108.

Since you're unable to see your Update QuickBooks Desktop option after selecting Help from the top menu bar, I'd recommend using your Verify Data utility to see if anything needs to be rebuilt.

Here's how:

  1. Choose Window, then Close All.
  2. In your top menu bar, go to File.
  3. Click Utilities.
  4. Select Verify Data.

After verification's complete, you'll see one of a few possible messages. I've listed each of them and their meanings:

  • "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," - No action is required.
  • "Your data has lost integrity," - This indicates that there's data damage in your company file. You'll want to perform a rebuild to correct the problem.
  • An error message could display. If so, there might be an article about it. Try searching Intuit's QuickBooks Desktop support site for specific instructions.

If the Verify/Rebuild Data utilities didn't solve your issue, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team so they can conduct further research: They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have an awesome day!
