If you're looking for clarification on the payroll subscription details, then I'm your guy! I'm happy to help. You can have a payroll subscription without using the accounting features built into the QuickBooks Online program. If you check out this link down below, you can select the desired payroll plan. (Core, Premium and Elite)

When you pick the one you want, the next page with ask you if you want Simple Start, Essentials or Plus. However you also have the option on the far right to select I only need payroll.
