Q 3 941 and Payroll for Covid items

I had an employee with Covid, who was paid from July 13-Aug. 17th.  My covid payroll items were set up incorrectly, so , therefore, I cannot generate a correct 941 which reflects Covid adjustments.  I was on the phone for 2 hrs. today, with Payroll support, however, she was unable to correct the problem because the payroll was sent with direct deposit.

1. I believe I do have the correct payroll covid / national leave items, however, she didn't help me set up one for Medicare, and said I didn't need one, but I think I do according to what I have read.  Do I need a Covid/National Leave Item for Medicare?

2.  Is it possible for me to simply change the payroll item on the paycheck, since it was a direct deposit?

3.  I would appreciate any advice on this subject !  I doubt that I am the only one running into this, because the original set of instructions QB sent out for setting up the National Leave Items, was incomplete, and could not be set up.

Thanks !

Thank you for the detailed information, @jldejong.

I'm here to share additional information about the Quarterly Form 941 and covid payroll items.

Yes, you need to set up a separate payroll item for National Paid Leave & Medicare Credit. This helps ensure you'll be able to track the taxes and payroll properly and use the correct accounts and items for accurate reporting. To learn more about this process, you may check out this article: How to track paid leave and sick time for the coronavirus.

Since the paycheck was processed through direct deposit, I would recommend getting back to our Support Team since they are the ones who can pull up your account securely. Moreover, a representative can open the previous case you had, then give you some workarounds or solutions that keep your form and payroll right.

Here's the support's contact information: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Please post again if you have any other payroll or QuickBooks questions. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!
