Question

unscheduled payroll

I normally run monthly payroll on the 12th of every month.  This month I will be on vacation.  I need to run payroll on the 6th.  Do i run this as an "unscheduled payroll" and change the period end date from the 30th to the 6th or 12th or leave as the 30th? Thanks

You don’t need to run an unscheduled payroll or change your pay period end date. Keep the pay period end date on the 30th, as it reflects the actual work period your employees are being paid for. The only thing you need to change is the check date, which you’ll set to the 6th, the day employees will actually receive their pay.

In QuickBooks, that means you can run your regular scheduled payroll early and enter the check date as the 6th. Leave the pay period start and end dates exactly as they normally are, since those dates should match the wages being earned, not the day you process payroll.

Unscheduled payroll is typically used for off-cycle items such as bonuses, corrections, or a separate one-time payment. Since this is just your normal payroll being processed early while you are away, it should remain on your regular schedule.

Thank you for the reply. My CPA said to run as unscheduled. May have to do with state of California. With our corporation we have to pay taxes within 2 days of payroll.
thank you for information
