Sat - Sun, 7am - 4pm PST
There are two different security layers in QuickBooks Online, and it helps to know which one is prompting you.
Turn off Two-step verification, if it's still on
- Sign in to your Intuit account.
- Select Sign In & Security from the left menu.
- In the Two-step verification section, select Turn off.
- Enter the code sent to you, then select Continue.
If you're signing in with a different phone number than the one on file, update your phone number first so you can access this setting.
If you're still prompted after Two-step verification is off
This is multi-factor authentication (MFA), a separate, always-on layer that can't be turned off. It normally only asks for a one-time code the first time you use a new browser or device, so if it's prompting you every single time, something is making your browser look "new" on each visit. Common causes include:
- A browser set to clear cookies and history automatically, or one with "don't remember history" enabled.
- Signing in through a private or incognito window regularly, rather than your normal browser.
- An ad blocker or privacy extension interfering with the session. Some users have found that temporarily disabling their ad blocker for Intuit sites resolved this, though results vary and this isn't officially documented as a confirmed cause.
Check your browser's privacy settings and make sure cookies aren't being cleared automatically, and try allowlisting Intuit sites in any ad blocker or privacy extension you use.
Reduce how often you're signed out
- Select the Gear icon, then Account and settings.
- Go to Advanced, then select the pencil icon next to Other preferences.
- Change Sign me out if inactive for to a longer window, such as 2 or 3 hours.
- Select Save, then Done.
This won't remove MFA prompts on a genuinely new browser or device, but it reduces how often you're fully signed out and need to verify again during the day.
