Importing Historical Data using excel templates

I'm trying to import these transactions that intuit shows on their website can be import via excel into Enterprise. I have an excel template with column headers for data that needs to be filled into import but no description of what that column data should be. QB Support doesn't seem to know about importing transactions with an excel template.

Thanks,

Shawn

I appreciate your efforts and time in bringing this concern to us, Shawn1973. I'll provide further information about selecting roles.

Yes, you're right. You have the option to utilize an Excel file to transfer or import information into and from QuickBooks. To provide more accurate assistance, could you kindly specify the type of transactions you are looking to import into QuickBooks Enterprise?

You can also check out this article for the detailed steps and the list of things that can be imported to QuickBooks: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Moreover, you can also back up your company file and make it a save point for your accounting data.

If you have more questions or program concerns, just add them to your reply below. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Your link doesn't provide answer. I am trying to import 3 years of historical data E.G. Customer invoices, payments and deposits.I have provided a snapshot of Intuits own website that shows Transactions you can import. I have been unsuccessful in getting anyone from Intuit Support to tell me where to get the templates and the data that I need to pull from existing Accounting software that client is converting from.

Allow me to chime in on this thread and provide further details, @Shawn1973

Yes, the list on the screenshot you've attached is what you can import to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). However, the only data you can import using Excel is Customer, Vendor, Items, and Chart of Accounts.

Moreover, you can get the details you can use as the header for the Excel template inside QBDT.

  1. Go to File and choose Utilities.
  2. Click Import and select Excel Files.
  3. An Add/Edit Multiple List Entries pop-up will show. Click No.
  4. Select Advanced Import.
  5. Browse for the Excel file.
  6. Click Add New in the Choose a mapping dropdown.
  7. In the Import type dropdown, choose between which you want to see the details for the header.

If you want to import other data, you can download the .IIF import kit on this article:  IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers. And follow the steps on it for the import process.

Additionally, you can refer to this article about the money-in and money-out transactions:

Please return to this thread if you have further concerns with importing your historical data to QuickBooks Desktop. We'll be here to lend a hand.
