QB performance on laptop--to close program or not?

We are running QB Premier desktop for our small business--just one user. We recently got a new laptop because QB was taking forever to load up and get started--I guess because the files are so big and/or our laptop was too slow. Our question now is how to keep QB running at peak performance on this laptop? Do we need to sign off of the company and the QB program altogether after each use? Or just daily? (we are in there about twice a day) Do we need to close it when we put the computer to sleep and/or shut it down? And any other tips for keeping it manageable would be welcome. Thank you.

Welcome to the Community, kingmoose.

I'm here to make sure you'll be able to open QuickBooks seamlessly.

There are possible reasons why QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) lags. This could include:

  • QuickBooks is not updated.
  • Computer does not meet the minimum system requirements.
  • Damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file.
  • There is corruption on your hard drive.
  • The program files or QBDT installation may be damaged.
  • Damaged Windows operating system.

In this case, let's run the QuickBooks Refresher (QBRefresher) Tool. This helps end all the processes running in the background and also performs a mini-repair.

Here's how:

  1. Close QB, then download the QuickBooks Refresher tool and save the file on your desktop.
  2. Run the tool, then open the QB again.

If the issue persists, run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. This will automatically diagnose and fix issues with the Microsoft components the program uses. Here's how:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool and save it to the located desktop.
  2. Close all open programs and run the Tool.
  3. Once done, restart the computer to ensure the components are properly updated.

After that, try opening QBDT again to double-check. If the same thing happens, please check out this article and proceed to solutions 3 to 5 for more troubleshooting steps: Solutions for when QuickBooks stops working

Thanks. We will use these in the future with this new laptop. Can you address the questions about closing/shutting down/logging off QB desktop? What's the right way to do it?
