Question

Quickbook crashes when trying to start backup

I moved my quickbook desktop from one laptop to another and everything works fine.

However, when I try to create a backup of my company file, Quickbook just freezes and shuts down by itself.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

It doesn't even give me an error message.

How big is your file size? Have you run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility?

Let's get your data backed up, mk45.

Updating the QuickBooks Desktop release version is a good start when it comes to fixing program-related issues. After that, you can go back and start backing up your file.

However, if the crashing persists, let's perform the verify and rebuild process. Here's how:

To Verify Data:

  1. Click Window at the top menu bar, then Close All.
  2. From the File menu, choose Utilities.
  3. Tap Verify Data.

To Rebuild Data:

  1. Click Window at the top menu bar, then Close All.
  2. From the File menu, choose Utilities.
  3. Hit Rebuild Data.
  4. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  5. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

Once done, you can refer to this article for the detailed steps in backing up your data: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

You can always get back to me if you need additional assistance. I'll zip right back to help you out. Have a wonderful day!

Hello,

I updated the desktop version (they couldn't find anymore to update) and verified the data.

It did give me an error saying it would fix if we rebuilt.

So it took me to the rebuilt option and when I clicked OK, it asked to backup the file first.

When I select the location (I tried various locations such as desktop, document, external drive) and click OK, it crashed and shut down again.
