How do I turn off or reduce the ads and marketing pop-ups in QuickBooks Online?
QuickBooks Online doesn't currently have a single setting that turns off all in-product ads, and that's understandably frustrating when you're trying to work. What you can do today is dismiss each ad so it stops showing, tell the team you want an off-switch through feedback, and add a browser pop-up blocker to cut down on some of them.
Turn off personalized ads (the strongest setting) This is the closest thing to an off-switch, and it's the step most people miss.
- Select Settings (the gear icon), then Account and settings.
- Go to the Advanced tab, then select Marketing preferences. This opens your Intuit account.
- Select Preferences, scroll to Personalized ads, and switch off both Intuit products and services and Third-party products and services.
- Your preferences save automatically; the change can take up to 48 hours to fully take effect.
Two honest notes: this reduces personalized promotional content rather than removing every message, and it's available to regular users but not to Accountant-user logins.
Dismiss ads as they appear
For anything that still shows up, closing it is quick.
- When an ad or pop-up shows, select the X or No, thanks.
- That dismisses that specific ad. If the same one reappears on a screen you revisit, dismissing it again is currently the way to clear it.
Ask for an off-switch (this is the real lever)
The supported way to push for a way to disable ads is to send product feedback, which goes to the team that decides these controls. Go to Settings (gear icon), then Feedback, describe what you want (for example, a setting to turn off promotional pop-ups), and submit: Submit feedback about QuickBooks Online.
Reduce pop-ups with your browser
A browser blocker catches some of what's left.
- Select the lock (or site info) icon to the left of the address bar.
- Open Site settings (Chrome) or Permissions for this site (Firefox).
- Set Pop-ups and redirects to Block. In Safari, use Safari, then Settings for This Website, and block pop-ups.
Heads-up: a browser blocker stops some pop-ups but won't remove every in-product ad, since many are built into the QuickBooks interface rather than served as browser pop-ups.
If a specific ad keeps interrupting a particular task, tell us which one and where it appears, and we can pass that detail along with your feedback.
