We're glad to see you here in the Community space, @suzannek1. I'm here to share a detailed step-by-step guide on how to turn a sub-account into a parent account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Instead of merging accounts, you can change the account type of the sub-account to turn it into a regular one. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and click Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the subaccount and click Edit from the Action column.
  3. Select the Save account under dropdown to choose a new type. Subaccounts appear indented, while parent accounts are not. Ensure not to select one of the indented or nested options to turn it into a parent account.
  4. In the Tax Form section dropdown, select the appropriate detail type.
  5. Click Save

Additionally, keep your accounts organized and easy to find by assigning numbers. This way, you can quickly locate them, whether you're searching in the Chart of Accounts or adding a transaction.

Feel free to reach out back to us whenever you have further questions concerning sub and parent accounts in QBO. I'll be there right away to address them. Stay safe!
