Reclassify transactions

How can I reclassify my transactions to REMOVE the entry for class? In other words, change the an existing class to BLANK (or no entry)? (I'm running Quickbooks Online Advanced)

Removing the assigned class to a transaction is pretty easy. You'll want to open the transaction and remove the class from there.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Find and open the transaction.
  2. From the Class field, highlight the class name, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
  3. Click Save.

 

Please know that you can use the Reclassify tool to change multiple transactions or move them to a different account. You can browse this page to learn more about the process: Learn how to use the reclassify transactions tool to batch edit transactions.

 

If you want to keep track of each segment in your business, you run reports by class and customize them. I'm adding these articles as your guide.

Thanks for the prompt reply ... sadly, I have 1,000s of transactions, all assigned to the same class ("OPERATING") which we'd like to remove.

 

If I could DELETE the class entry OPERATING, I'd do that, but I can only inactivate, not delete.

 

If I could CHANGE he class entry from OPERATING to blank, I'd do that, but when I try to edit the entry and change it to blank, system responds "Please enter a value for this required field".

 

System also does not let me do a RECLASSIFY TRANSACTIONS to a blank class.

 

Any other ideas?

Let me continue to address your concern about reclassifying transactions with a blank entry.

 

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the system really requires you to enter an information when reclassifying a transaction. Also, you have to take note of the following:

 

  • You can’t change the account or class for inventory adjustments since they’re connected to your inventory shrinkage and asset accounts.
  • You can change the class for invoices, sales receipts, checks, or bills with items (products or services) on them. However, you can’t change the accounts.

I can see how having the ability to customize the reclassifying of transactions in QBO would be helpful for you and your business. That said,  them. encourage you to send us your thoughts and ideas for this specific request so our product engineers can review them. They're always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QBO.

  1. Go to the Gear located at the top.
  2. Under Profile, click Feedback.
  3. Enter your recommendation and select Submit.
