Hi.  How can I turn off tags?  I don't need them and they are just adding another field I have to key through.

Let me walk you through on how to turn off the Tags feature in QuickBooks Online, CFOSecrets.

Tagging is a new feature where it helps you track transactions however you'd like. Since you don't need to use this function, you can turn if off anytime you want.

I'm glad to show you how. Simply follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select QuickBooks labs.
  2. Locate Tags, then switch off the button.

You can always turn it on through QuickBooks labs if ever you want to use this feature. Check out this page to learn more about tagging: Tag transactions.

Stay in touch with me if there's anything else you need. I'm always right here to help.

Thanks for this.  I found the labs section; the tags option is already turned off but I'm still seeing it in the various forms (e.g. in the expense form). Any idea why?

Thanks for getting back to us, @CFOSecrets.

You'll want to refresh your QBO account to remove the tag portion on your forms. Let me guide you how.

  1. In your home screen, go to your account initials at the top right.
  2. Click Sign Out.

After signing out, go back to qbo.intuit.com and log back in. Create an expense account again to see if you still have the tag drop-down.

Additionally, you can sign in to your account using another browser to start fresh your browsing experience. Just follow the steps below depending on the browser you're using.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Hold Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox).
  • Hold and press Command + Shift + N (Safari).

If you need help with invoices and expenses, just check out this link to go to our general income and expenses topics with articles.

Get back to me if you still need help. I'm always here to lend a hand. Have a wonderful day ahead.

Having the same problem and cannot turn this stupid tag feature off! PLEASE FIX THIS!

February 17, 2021

I found this old thread while trying to find a way to turn the Tag feature off when entering Expenses.  Unfortunately, when I go to my Settings_Quickbooks labs, Tags is no longer an option.  I only have QB Themes; Cash Flow Dashboard Widget; Import Style and Turn on community reports.

     Can Tags still be disabled?

Hi there, MKKW. Thanks for joining the Community.

Currently, our Product Development team's working on an option for subscribers to turn off their tags feature. If you'd like to be added to Intuit's list of affected users, you can follow the steps in my post from December 29, 2020 to get in touch with our Customer Care team. Doing so will ensure that you receive email notifications about any updates relating to this topic.

You can also review our What's New in QBO archives to stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely day!

I spent almost 2 hours yesterday on the phone with QB tech support, just to find out they didn't know what I was talking about! Your colleagues here in UK should know that there is an open investigation and you are collecting names of the 'affected' customers.....it is such a waste of MY time if I have now to ring the support again!

Why do you need a list of  'affected' customers?

JUST CORRECT THE ON/OFF BUTTON IN LABS, as you have already the function there!!!!!  Right now, it DOESN'T do anything. Just enable it.

So the 'affected' customers can easily turn off 'tags' if they wish to.

Please talk to the tech support people in the UK, so nobody else waste 2 hours of their time explaining the problem to them, as they should know it by now!!

A year later and we are still fighting this ridiculous feature everyone wants gone. Intuit was nice enough to provide a half fix. Yay! Let's turn off tags in Sales / Expense Forms, but let's keep it as an annoying feature in banking where it really screws up your workflow.

I was just chatting with QBO Accountant support and was informed of the following:
"As for tag, we can remove the tags in transactions such as invoices thru account and settings > sales. However, as for the tags in banking, we don't have the option to remove or disable it, since it's a new feature being applied in QB by our product developers. I can see how this feature would be beneficial to you and your business. "

Intuit is really NOT listening...We have been promised over and over by Intuit that they would provide a solution to Turn Off Tags, period. And now we are told that is not going to be the case.

Good thing Intuit is upping the price while cutting the Accountant benefits along with a horribly declining Accountant support, it makes moving to another Accounting software so much easier!

Updated message from support:

"This is what our team says that tags has been turned on for 100% of US QBO accounts, with no option for customers to disable. The Tags product team is working on the creating the Setting to disable the feature. Although Tags is still showing in QB, turning off there would not disable it. The tags product team is aware of users wanting to permanently disable it. We can let them know it is already on our roadmap. and recommend they leave feedback using the Give Feedback link on the tags page if they'd like. And customers can use it or not, since, it's just an added feature in QB, that doesn't requires you to add a tag on the account."
