I am needing to get remote access for QuickBooks pro and I cannot figure out how to get access to this feature.

Currently, I am obtaining my clients computer to maintain her books and it's a hassle, espcially this time of the year. When I was using her QB on her laptop, a popup came up within QB and said something about QuickBooks Remote Access for 7.95 a month but I cannot find anymore information on this and I cannot figure out how to get it setup. This is a small business so spending $50 a month for remote access from another company is out of the question.

I am needing to get remote access for QuickBooks pro and I cannot figure out how to get access to this feature.

You saw this info:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/qb/inproduct/remote_access/remote_p1.html

That was discontinued about 5 years ago. I am guessing your client has an Really Old QB program on that computer.

There's no built in feature I know of. Instead use remote access software to log into remote computers where QB is installed.  Teamviewer works well, and there are others.

If you use Google Chrome as a browser and sync/personalize it with a gmail address you can use 'Chrome Remote Desktop' for free!  It's not as robust as TeamViewer or LogMeIn but I use it in concert with a cloud storage service (DropBox) and  find it to work perfectly.  QBs really should have a remote access protocol built into the accountant's version but they want to sell everyone a subscription to their online products.

I've heard that Splashtop works well, also.

Has anyone tried Chrome Remote Desktop? I read you can do it with that if both computers are running the extension? and it's free. Also read that if both computers (remote and computer to access) are running Windows 7 or above you can do a remote access.

Has anyone tried doing this with Chrome Remote Desktop (free, both computers need to be running the extension) ? Or I read also if both computers are running Windows 7 or higher you can do a remote access also for free. I was thinking of having a dedicated computer with just the quickbooks on it that both myself and my bookkeeper can access at anytime to work on it. https://www.howtogeek.com/257655/remote-desktop-roundup-teamviewer-vs.-splashtop-vs.-windows-rdp/

Hi there, @kgall.

Allow me to join the thread and help share additional information about getting a remote access for QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Yes, you have the option to choose what third-party application you're going to use.

You may also visit our App Center to check for compatible application.

As always, free feel to add a post/comment below if you have any other QuickBooks questions. Have a great day ahead!

You can use Chrome Remote Access.  You just need the extension installed on both computers.  The main reason I'm commenting is that you don't need to leave the remote computer logged in to access it.  You can leave it at the login screen and login like you always do...  just a security issue.

Yes. We use chrome remote access on all our computers. It's so much easier to log in and update proceed directly from anywhere without having to export, download and import.

I just talked with a QB rep (9/19/2019).  He said they still offer remote access hosting for the Desktop versions of QB.  It's even more expensive than QB Online-Advanced, but available.

I am looking around for a way for my accountant to access my quickbooks to do monthly reconciliation and found the quickbooks remote access tool. It shows its $3.95/month but for whatever reason it will not open the site the link directs you to. It is hosted by WebEx. The link just times out. Does anyone know if this service is still offered? It seems to be the most affordable "anytime anyplace" access system for quickbooks.

Hello there, hdlawncarerva,

QuickBooks has its own Intuit Hosting Program. You can check that here: http://www.intuithostingprogram.com/.

WebEx is not part of the Intuit Authorized Hosting Company list. If you want to check WebEx, you'll want to contact their support directly.

If you want to check out Right Networks hosting, check this article: What is Right Networks hosting?

If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to leave a reply.

I am working from home remotely for a couple of weeks.  I am using TeamViewer to log into my computer at work.  Can someone tell me how I can print checks on my home printer while I am signed in remotely??

Welcome to the thread, @kconn.

You can print checks on your computer while currently remotely log in, as long as your computer and remote printer device is connected via the same network.

To print check, you can refer on this article: Create, modify, and print checks.

You can always count on me if ever you have any other questions. I'm always here to answer it for you. Take care.

If you are the network administrator, just setup a VPN either by using a SonicWall Firewall or through the Domain Controller some other router and access the QuickBooks by using the Remote Desktop Connection on a local machine in your client's office. This would be the Safest and the Fastest way to access QuickBooks Remotely.

Or you can host your QuickBooks which would be a more expensive route.

Good luck,

AlcompCo

Hi Alcompco,

Your suggestion is exactly what I wanted to try to do.  I worked for a company that gave me a laptop and I could remote access QB on their main computer.  Only one of us could work on it at a time.  It would kick me out if my boss needed to go on to do something.  This is not a problem at all.  So I would like to try to set that up for myself now.  I am JUST starting-up a QB business and would like to practice making this work before I have clients so I don't have to fumble around with it after.  So I was wondering if you have a more step-by-step instruction for how you do this for someone who is the ANTI-IT.  I would be forever grateful!

Thank you,

Patti

Thanks for joining the thread here in the Community, @Trishy007.

I'll guide you on how you can remote access QuickBooks data from one computer to another. Normally, you'll just have to configure some settings to enable it. Here is the step-by-step process on how to do it.

First, you'll have to install the QuickBooks Database Manager on your remote computer for multi-user access configuration. Here's how:

  1. Download & Install QuickBooks Desktop on the main computer.
  2. Go to the File menu then choose Switch to Multi-user Mode.
  3. Choose Yes in the Multi-user hosting setup required window. Note: QuickBooks Desktop installs and runs QBDBMgrN.exe as a background service. This service must be running on the computer storing the company file even if QuickBooks Desktop is not open.
  4. Click OK on the Multi-user setup information window then add the necessary users by going to Company and selecting Users then Set up Users and Roles and then select New.

Second, turn on network discovery and password sharing off to access QuickBooks remotely over the network. Here are the steps how:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2.  Select Network and Sharing Center, then choose Change advanced sharing settings.
  3. Expand the Profile type that you are currently using.
  4. Choose Turn on network discovery under Network Discovery.
  5. Select Turn off password protected sharing under Password protected sharing
  6. Hit Save changes once done.

Lastly, locate and open the company file you wish to remotely access. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu then select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Open a company file, then Next.
  3. Browse the location of the company file.
  4. Click the company file (with file extension .qbw) from the list and select Open.
  5. Enter your user name and password if prompted.

You can also check the Intuit Hosting Program and its authorized hosting providers.

Check out this help article if you've more QuickBooks concerns, such as how to import data, managing reports, setting up payments and inventories, integrating third-party apps, and many more.

@Trishy007

Should you need to work on multi-user mode, consider deploying a private cloud solution. It is more easier for non-IT backgroud personnel to setup.

How do we setup remote access on QuickBooks PRO 2013?

That version is supposed to have remote access feature, but when we go to File tab there is no "remote access" option. (As referenced in the QB help)

The above instructions did not work. We see no way to access or open the QB file on the host computer, which is running Widows 8.

Utilize the remote desktop app

You will need another solution to open the file in multi user mode by internet connection.

Good Afternoon, @Anon7

I can provide you with some additional information about remote access within your QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2013. Your 2013 version of QuickBooks won't be compatible with a newer version of Windows. You'll need to update your Windows 8 to Windows 11. Afterward, update your QuickBooks Desktop version to 2018 or newer.  This will allow you to have the full functionality of the product. Here are a few article's that can help you out:

Let me know if this helps. I want to make sure all of your concerns are addressed as soon as possible. Bye for now!

I hope you're having a beautiful day so far.

The best way to remote access your client's QuickBooks Desktop is through one of our third-party apps. You can search for remote access apps that allow you to access your client's computer remotely. Each app will give you details as to which ones require the equipment at the remote to be turned off or not. You can also contact their support team and ask them any questions you may have about their product.

You can also reference other user's suggestions above to help determine the best access.

I'm only a few clicks away should you have any other questions. Enjoy the rest of your day!
