Our bank connection is not updating since last week.

I tried the help article to re-connect, however , our bank account shows up but as a new chart of accounts , I concerned if I added it , it will mess-up the current bank transactions. (  the bank account is there , just no updating)

It's Bank of Hawaii and I am not sure what is the problem

Let's get your bank connection in QuickBooks Online (QBO) established again, @Niko74. I'll provide some troubleshooting steps below to help you.

Before we start, may I know if you encountered a specific error code? Any additional information would help us verify if there's an ongoing issue with the bank.

In the meantime, let's inactivate your account from the Chart of Accounts first to ensure this won't cause any duplicates to your transactions. Then, we can manually update your bank account to download the transactions and help refresh the connection between your bank and QBO. Thus, adding your bank to your chart of accounts might cause issues.

Once you're ready. Here's how:

  1. Click Transactions from the left menu, then Bank Transactions.
  2. Select the bank account.
  3. From the top-right of the page, click the Update button.

Also, check your bank's website to confirm if there's an issue on your bank's end. Otherwise, you can still manually upload your bank transactions to QuickBooks.

Here is what it shows when I selected bank transactions => manage connection

I found 2 connection from the bank of hawaii

  1. Top Connection:

    • Linked in 2017.
    • Includes Checking (...7355), Savings (...4355), and Checking (...2376).
    • It stopped updating transactions last month.
  2. bottom Connection:

    • Linked on 12/6/2024.
    • Includes the same accounts.
    • I paused setup because QuickBooks prompted me to create new Chart of Accounts, and I didn’t want to risk duplicating transactions.

If I make the old connection inactive and activate the new one, will it import duplicate transactions and mess up my records? How can I avoid duplicate transactions while switching to the new connection?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Niko74.

It's a great way to ensure that records are organized and intact. Let me guide you how to manage duplicate transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When activating the new bank account connection, duplicates will be imported into your transactions in QBO. The best way to avoid this is to exclude the duplicated transactions by selecting them.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. In the For review tab, select the checkbox for each transaction you want to exclude.
  3. Select Exclude.

All excluded transactions will be stored in the Excluded tab and they won't be added to QuickBooks or downloaded. You can also undo all transaction in the Excluded tab to bring it back to the For review tab.
