PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

One of my clients, their PayPal transactions are coming into QB at the currency they were paid in rather than USD. An example is that if they pay someone in 15000 PHP it comes into QB as 15000 PHP and not 300 USD (rough figures)

Any know how to fix this?

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

Hi there, Dean Anderson.

I’m here to help with your PayPal transactions.

Are you using the US version of QuickBooks, or the International version, such as QBO Philippines? Did you connect your PayPal account as a Bank account in the program? Also, are these transactions imported into the program, or you’re manually entering them while referencing the PayPal statement?

If you’re using the International version and you’ve connected PayPal as a Bank Account, you'll first enable the Multicurrency feature of the program so all foreign transactions will calculate correctly. Then, set up the vendor your client needs to pay with a USD currency.

You can then create a USD PayPal account in your Chart of accounts. This way, you’ll be able to transfer those transactions from the Php PayPal account to the foreign account.

To set up your vendor in foreign currency:

  1. Go to Expenses in the left panel, then Suppliers.
  2. Click New Supplier.
  3. Enter the necessary vendor details.
  4. Choose USD in the I pay this supplier with dropdown.
  5. Click Save.

To set up the foreign PayPal bank account:

  1. Go to Accounting in the left panel, then Chart of Accounts.
  2. Click New.
  3. Enter some relevant information.
  4. Select USD under Currency, then click Save and Close.

Once the PayPal in Php transactions come over, transfer the transactions you need in the PayPal USD account.

Here’s how:

  1. Click the Create button (Plus icon), pick Transfer.
  2. In the Transfer Funds From drop-down, select the PayPal in Php.
  3. Choose PayPal in USD in the Transfer Funds To drop-down.
  4. Ensure the currency is in USD.
  5. Enter the Transfer Amount.
  6. Click Save and Close.

For more details about how the Multicurrency feature works in QuickBooks Online, check out this article:

That’s it! Your foreign transactions should be posted accurately in the program.

Let me know if you’re referring to something different, or if you have questions with the process. I’ll be around.

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

Hi,

The client is using the US version of QB and I believe that they connected to PayPal via QB. The account on QB is also USD denominated PayPal account.

This is only a recent thing as up until mid-September and the start of October the transaction were all coming into QB in USD so it a very new issue.

Thanks

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

Hi Dean Anderson,

Thanks for getting back with more details about the PayPal sync concern.

The transactions must be converted first in USD from your PayPal account so the currency will translate in QuickBooks Online. Another thing I suggest is checking the PayPal account and reviewing how those transactions were posted up until mid-September.

If they are posted differently from those in October transactions, please contact PayPal. There may be settings and mapping we need to double-check to make sure they’ll be downloading in QBO correctly.

However, if they are posted in USD from the PayPal account, they should show the same currency in the program. Since we haven’t received reported issue on this, I’d recommend reaching out to our Customer Care team.

They have the necessary tools, such as screen sharing session to investigate what’s causing this to happen on your client’s account.

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

Hi, We are also facing same issue we did a transaction in PHP for which the USD amount is mentioned in Paypal. However, QBO imported the PHP value instead of USD value.

FYI - We are using US version of Quickbooks and the paypal account is connected through QBO.

Also Quickbooks is also not importing entries of money transferred from Checking to Paypal Account.

Thanks for joining us here, @vikash200418.

Imported transactions will be assigned to the home currency that you have set up. To correct the transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can follow the steps given by my colleague, VivienJ.

Also, all PayPal transactions can be imported to QBO. Since the transfers from the Checking account didn't appear, I suggest contacting PayPal. This way, you'll be able to confirm if you need to update some settings.

Also, you may want to consider assigning a foreign currency or multiple currencies to a customer. From this, you'll learn how to assign certain customers to the right foreign currency.

As always, you can leave a comment below if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. I'll be around to help.

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

I have this similar problem. It is showing USD $150 in my PayPal account but it is showing up as CAD $150 in my QuickBooks account. I have been looking for ways to match/record this transaction but I haven't managed to do so since it shows as CAD $150 under my PayPal account in my Quickbooks when it's supposed to be USD $150...

We appreciate you for joining in on the thread, RuRuRu.

Just like CharleneMae_F explained on her response, the imported transactions will follow the home currency of the company. If your company's home currency is CAD while your PayPal accounts is in USD, I'd recommend correcting the transactions within the PayPal.

You can log in to your PayPal account and convert the amounts from USD to CAD. After that, you can already import the data to QuickBooks Online. This will or should correct your future transactions which was also mentioned by VivienJ on this response.

Meanwhile, we can follow the steps in this response to correct the transactions that were already imported in QuickBooks Online.

Though there is still room for questions to clarify your situation, the steps provided by VivienJ and CharleneMae_F to correct the data were pretty much the same.

Please get back to us if you have additional queries about the process. We'd be glad to hear more details about it.

@CatherineIM

Afaik, their PayPal connector doesn't support multi currency transactions. Our clients have to record the transactions manually or use a paid connector to do so.

PayPal Foreign Transaction are not correct

Hello,

I'm sorry - I'm still confused. Is there an online video tutorial? I haven't been able to reconcile my books and we have Paypal synced. We pay some vendors in USD and some in PHP.

The QBO is only picking up the deposits made in USD and the payments to USD vendors. It is NOT picking up PHP transactions. So what you are saying is that we have to designate the two vendors that we pay in PHP to PHP?

Is there a video - sorry I'm confused how to set it up.

Let me ease your confusion, Charmlle.

An online tutorial is unavailable. No worries, though. I'm here to assist you.

The program is only picking USD deposits. It's because the transactions are assigned to your home currency.

You may want to convert the PHP transactions to USD. Or, you can follow VivienJ's steps to get around your concern.

Once done, you can reconcile your account without any issues.

Feel free to let us know if you have other concerns. We'll be around to help you. Keep safe!
