Will the desktop version stop working in 2023? There is conflicting information out there.
What do you mean with "conflicting information"?
They have discontinued QB Desktop UK version for sure last May. But you can still use it for good.
Next month, they will release QB Desktop 2024 US and Canadian version.
I appreciate your effort in reaching out to us, FarmerBrenda.
I'm here to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding QuickBooks Desktop's service discontinuation policy.
After May 31, 2023, we have only discontinued access to several services through QuickBooks Desktop 2020 software. This includes QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, live technical support, Online Backup, Online Banking, and others. It's also important to note that if you are using QuickBooks Desktop 2020, you will no longer receive critical security updates to protect your data starting June 1, 2023.
Here is a list of the affected products after May 31, 2023:

My client has QuickBooks ProPlus 2023 (Desktop). When does it retire? She has Payroll, so I guess I'm asking if she has to purchase QuickBooks Desktop 2024 prior to the last day of May? She does not want QBOE. Thanks!!!!
Can your client access their CAMPS as the Primary Contact and find their license status there?
It's great to see you here in the Community, @fifthpoint. Let me share some details about how QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) works.
Your client's QBDT product and payroll subscription will depend on what your client has purchased. It's either a monthly or an annual subscription. Thus, you'll want to check their license/subscription status from the Company menu or through the Customer Account Management Portal Site (CAMPs).
Follow these steps if you can log in and open their company file:
If you cannot open the company file but can access your client's CAMPS (if they have added you as an authorized user), follow the steps below:
Moreover, the QBDT software that will be discontinued on May 31, 2024, is the 2021 version. See this article for more details: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
From there, you'll be able to see when their subscription will expire. You can check out this article if they need to renew a QBDT subscription: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know if you have other questions about the QBDT subscription. I'm always here to help. Have a great weekend ahead.
Good luck finding QB Desktop for Mac. I just got an email that support is being discontinued for Desktop. So I figured I'd upgrade while I can. A link to Desktop version doesn't exist on any pate on intuit's main site. Finally got a "service manager" who wanted my life story. For some amazing reason, my payment history and versions were unavailable to her. After a half hour I ended the chat.
Paying $700 a year to rent a one trick pony is ludicrous. I pay $56/month for the entire Adobe Creative Suite which I use 5-10 hours a day. $60 to $90 month to invoice and email bills is insane. After being a customer for 25 years, I'm extremely frustrated and annoyed that I can't get straight answer from anyone.
You have to call their sales team or purchase a new license of QB Desktop 2024 Mac Plus through selected partners. Contact me in private and we can share some options to consider. You can get a cashback if you are interested.
