New mandatory QBO Payroll setting

I received the email about the change coming as of Nov 15, 2025 for new QB Online Payroll subscribers. I am a CPA who processes these payments and files the forms for many of my clients. I have a ridiculous number of times where the client using QBO to perform these functions ended up with incorrect payments and forms by QBO and it took us ages of work to get everything corrected with the corresponding government agencies. I completely disagree with this change and will discourage all clients from initiating new QBO payroll subscriptions and instead use Desktop (even if we have to run their payrolls for them). QB should always allow the professionals the option of turning this off.

It is also alarming that they will withdraw the funds from the client's bank accounts and "hold" them until time to send to the appropriate government agency. That seems to be a reach for QB to create earnings for themselves from clients' funds for the time periods of "holding".

New mandatory QBO Payroll setting

Can we revert back to Desktop?  I was told we could not.  Going from Desktop to Online was a downgrade.  I do not agree with or support the mandatory auto payroll tax setting.  Just as you stated, I have concerns

about QuickBooks taking control of payroll taxes and initiating withdrawals from our bank account without our approval.

New mandatory QBO Payroll setting

Have you looked into an external app for payroll that will integrate with QB's?  I am going to start looking.  If I can't find something we will be having our accountant process our payroll.  She already does payroll for several clients and she will be adding several more clients due to this change.
