Do I have to pay for 2 subscriptions, a basic one and a payroll one if all I want to do is track my expenses and run payroll on 3 people??

You can purchase QB Payroll as an add-on for your QB Online. Otherwise, you can use a 3rd party payroll app.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can have 1 subscription for the basic one (Simple Start). You'll simply select the payroll plan that you need to pay employees. 

If you don't have a QBO subscription, you can browse this link and choose your plan: QuickBooks Online Plan and Pricing.

Once you've selected the QBO plan that you need, you can also select the payroll version. I'm adding these screenshots below as your visual guide.

Once done, review the total and click Checkout to sign up and set up your billing information for the payment.

If you have already an existing QBO account, you can turn on the payroll service. Here's how:

1. Go to the Workers menu and click Employees.
2. Click Get Started or Set up Payroll.
3. Choose the type of service that you want to use.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete setting up your payroll account.
