I have a 3 user copy of QB Premier 2020 (Contractor Edition) and have been using a Company file located on a my computer with another copy on another computer on the same network. but the other computer runs so slowly accessing the co. file from my computer I have moved the company file to an external hard drive connected via USB to my Nighthawk router. I have been able to get the file to work in single user mode from both computers but if I try to switch to Multi-user mode I get error "H202 This company file is located on another computer and QuickBooks needs some help connecting. .
Here's how to fix this problem
On the computer where the company file is located open... QuickBooks Database Server Manager. The database server manager will scan your files and restore the connection."
Obviously this cannot be done since the Company file is not located on a "Computer" but rather is located on a hard drive "on" the router.
anybody know how to deal with this?

Quickbooks is up to date on both PC's I am using to access this file
As I mentioned this file is on a network drive and we do not want to move it to a PC

How many user license do you have? Which QB Desktop year version?
Hi , I have similar problem,
using NAS for file storing.
The problem is , there is no much option to install DataBase Server Manager on NAS, since all access is always from outside PC
Hello there, rad6.
I'm here to hare information about NAS compatibility with QuickBooks Desktop.
NAS is no longer applicable for the later versions of QuickBooks Desktop like Enterprise 2019 to host in multi-user.
To get the best experience, we use the QuickBooks Desktop Database Server Manager in a multi-user setup for QuickBooks Desktop. You may take a look at our system requirements.
You can also check out this article about specific types of networks you can use to run QuickBooks: Recommended networks for QuickBooks.
Anything else you need help with can be answered in the Community. Feel free to visit us again for more questions. Stay safe and have a good one.
So storing the quickbooks data file on the NAS is not supported?! We have to store it locally and run the database server?
So are you saying we can not store the company file on a NAS server?
A network drive (NAS) should not be used to host the multi-user Company file. QuickBooks will not work reliably and may give H505 or other errors. This is because the QuickBooks database manager needs to run on the same computer hosting the Company file. A 3rd party solution can be used if users in one of the shared locations need to use QuickBooks in multi-user configuration. The folder containing the Company file can be hosted on a server. It can also be hosted on a peer computer by using the Windows drive mapping technique to emulate a network drive on the peer computer, as required by that 3rd party solution.
