I installed QBE 24.0 and converted the company files from 22.0. Unfortunately FAM in 24.0 is not working. I made a back up in FAM 22.0 but it appears it didn't back up correctly. We used QBE 24.0 on a hosted ser

Thanks for being here with us in the Community, mleong. We would like to ensure that everything is functioning correctly after upgrading to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.

However, we'd like to ask a few questions to make sure we provide the most appropriate steps to sort this out. Specifically, can you provide more details about the situation with the Fixed Asset Manager? Is there any missing data following the upgrade of the company file?

In the meantime, let me share this article that provides troubleshooting steps for the most common issues when using the feature: Fix issues in Fixed Asset Manager (FAM).

With regards to the backup copy, I suggest creating another one in the older version if you can still access it. Then, open it in the 2024 version to make sure all data is included.

Let me share these articles as your guide:

Please provide any additional information you can about the Fixed Asset Manager and the backup copy. We will respond promptly and continue with the troubleshooting process. Remember, the Community is always here to support you if you need further assistance.

I converted the company file from QBE 22.0 to 24.0. I was told the Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) folders and files should migrate automatically. When I enter single user mode and open FAM it gives me options to crerate a new FAM client, tranter a prier year FAM client, reconnect Accountant's Review Copy or Restore a current year QB FAM client file. If my FAM folders and files migrated why these options. When I choose the restore option it appears the backup I made in 22.0 is not a back up. When we upgraded from 20.0 to 22.0 a few years back we ran into a similar problem and I believe (But can't recall) we had to change the name of a file. Clearly looking at the attached file, it appears a new folder called FAM23 was created and a subfolder BEL and another subfolder Reports were created with the date and time of the Company file migration. Not sure why FAM isn't automatically opening the migrated FAM client file.

Also, 22.0 appears to being using the FAM21 folder and 24.0 FAM23. Is this correct? Shouldn't the folders have been FAM22 for 22.0 and FAM24 for 24.0?

Thank you for your patience and detailed explanation of the issues you’re encountering while upgrading your Fixed Asset Manager (FAM) from version 22.0 to 24.0. It's clear you have put in a lot of effort to resolve this, and we appreciate that, Mleong.

It is possible that using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions (QBES) in a hosted service is contributing to these challenges. Hosted environments can introduce complexities regarding file paths and access permissions.

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

  1. Verify File Locations and Paths: Ensure your renamed files (F30, F31, M30) are in the correct directory within your hosting environment. Since you mentioned QuickBooks 24.0 uses the FAM23 folder, please make sure the files are located in this directory.
  2. Adjust FAM Directory Settings: Modify the directory settings to ensure that FAM 24.0 can accurately locate and access the renamed files (.F30, .F31, .M30). It will prevent recognition issues and support seamless functionality.
  3. Verify Permissions: Confirm you have the necessary read/write permissions for the relevant directories and files. Permissions issues are common in hosted environments where security settings may restrict access.
  4. Coordinate with Your Hosting Provider: I recommend contacting your hosting provider. They can assist you in verifying the configurations and permissions are correctly set up for FAM to function well in the hosted environment.

Regarding the folder naming conventions, the numerical suffix can sometimes differ due to the system's versioning method. For FAM, QuickBooks names the folders based on internal version control, which is why version 22.0 is tied to FAM21 and 24.0 to FAM23. This naming doesn't always directly correlate to the QuickBooks Desktop year versions.
