Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

I need to transfer files from my desktop and use my new laptop instead but my file is in release 1 and the files need to have R14 to open.  What do I do?  I have 2009 QuickBooks Pro.  Our small theater (which has been closed since March) can't really afford to upgrade right now.  I just need to be able to open the files.  Very frustrated right now.  Thanks for any help.

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

We don't have the trial license of QBD 2009 but we may share the trial license of QBD 2011. You may utilize it to open your company file for the time being.

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

Will I be able to continue to work with my files and save them or is this just a temporary fix to open them?  Is there a time limit on how long this trial file will work?

Thanks

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

Thanks for the quick reply, @Irish Rover.

I'll share with you some learning about our trial version in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

As of now, the trial version we offer on the website is for 2021. As per older versions, such as discontinued ones, you'll need to search for them outside QuickBooks.

I'd also suggest sending a direct message to Fiat Lux - ASIA to get the 2011 version as what he mentioned above.

After getting that sample account, you can be able to continue to work with your files and save them in the system for 30 days only. Before you start, make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements to install QuickBooks to avoid unexpected behavior.

I'd also provide you the steps on how to get the 2021 version in QBDT for future reference. Please note when opening the 2021 trial account, don't try to register so you will not lockout of QuickBooks. Simply close the window.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/new-subscriptions/download-a-trial-of-quickbooks-d....
  2. Pick a product, then download it on your computer.
  3. Use the License and Product Number in the link above.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Additionally, I've added these articles to help you get familiar with our products and their features.

Let me know if you have other questions. I'm happy to serve you. Keep safe!

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

I bought a new Win10 PC and installed my old Quickbooks 2009 (off my CD disk).

Before trashing and reformatting to wipe clean my old Win7 pc files, I saved my Company file in QB-2009-R14.

My QB-2009-R1 on my new PC can not read the QB-2009-R14 saved company file.

I am closing my company 12/31/2022 and need to do year end books.

1) Is there a way to update my QB-2009-R1 on my new PC can not read the QB-2009-R14 saved company file?

2) if not, can I download the 2021 version in QBDT file you mentioned above and read the QB-2009-R14 file?

Thank you for your advice.

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

Thanks for joining this thread, @Jerry-WA.

For your first query, there's no possible way to update QB-2009-R1 on your new PC because QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2009 is already a discontinued version.

Regarding your other concern, you cannot easily convert your company to a 2021 version since QBDT has a 3-year lifecycle, and upgrading it from 2009 to 2021 is a big jump. You can create a backup copy of your company file to avoid data issues due to feature or version differences. Then, restore it to QBDT 2011/2012 to 2014/2015 to 2017/2018, and then lastly, QuickBooks 2021.

As of now, the trial version we offer on the website is for 2023. For older versions, such as discontinued ones, you'll need to search for them outside of QuickBooks. Or contact our Customer Care Team to request QuickBooks trial links and licenses for the mentioned versions.

Otherwise, I would recommend consulting an IT professional to further look into your company file. They can assist you properly in handling the issues you've encountered while accessing the saved company file to open it with your QBDT 2009 program.

On the other hand, here are some of our helpful articles that you can read more about upgrading QBDT to a newer version:

If you have any other follow-up questions while handling your QBDT company files, let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Keep safe!

Update 2009 Quickbooks Pro

Don't know if this will help you, but I just finished dealing with this situation when setting up my new laptop. I've been using 2009 Pro forever and needed to transfer the program and data to the new machine while I decide if I'm going to upgrade to the new Quickbooks online. Here's how I did it:

1. Save a copy of your current company file to a USB drive.

2. Install Quickbooks 2009 from the original CD onto your new computer.

3. COPY the entire folders in the following directories on your old computer to a USB drive:

    -  C:/Program Files (x86)/Intuit/Quickbooks 2009

    -  C:/users/(your user account on your machine)/AppData/Local/Intuit/Quickbooks

    -  C:/users/(your user account on your machine)/AppData/Local/Intuit/Quickbooks2009

    -  C:/Program Data/Intuit/Quickbooks

    -  C:/Program Data/Intuit/Quickbooks2009

** NOTE: If you cannot see the "AppData" or "Program Data" folders in File Manager (these are System folders that normal users don't usually mess with), click "View" in the menu, and select "Hidden Items" - they should appear once you do that.

4. Take the folders you copied above, and paste each folder to the MATCHING LOCATION on your new computer. The system will ask if you want to replace all the current files with the ones you're copying - say YES. I copied one folder at a time to each location to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

5. Start Quickbooks 2009, and open your company file. It *should* open just fine so you can continue working with it  indefinitely.

This process has worked for me under both Windows 10 and Windows 11, and I've had no issues with the data files at all. Hope this helps!
