Changing Default Browser in QB Desktop

I use QB Desktop Pro 2019
When I create a new company file and choose Start Setup option, I am being directed to a window in which I need to login in order to link my other intuit accounts. This login window is actually a browser within the application. However, the browser is Internet Explorer and I would like to change it to a different one.
How do I do it?
Is it OS's setting or QB's?

Sorry just not an option

intuit is married to msft, the software only uses IE, Excel, & Word

Firefox, Opera, Tor, Chrome, Open office, LibreOffice, etc., can not be used over the default of msft products in QB

How would you go about changing the default browser inside to Firefox then? My bank no longer lets you access your bank account using any version of Internet Explorer," for security reasons"

Changing Default Browser in QB Desktop

Hello there, @RALPropServ.

QuickBooks Desktop (QDBT) works best with Internet Explorer (IE). It's the recommended default browser, and the option to change it is currently unavailable.

I understand the importance of being able to use another browser when downloading your business bank transactions to QBDT. Since your bank no longer supports IE, you can manually import your transactions so it'll be available in your bank feeds. Let me guide you how

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Select Utilities, then Import and then Web Connect Files.
  3. Choose the QBO file you saved, then click  Open.
  4. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select either Use an existing QuickBooks account or Create a new QuickBooks account.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. A dialogue box will inform you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks.
  7. Click OK.

Once done, visit the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

After importing your transactions, you can add and match them into your QuickBooks account. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop. It contains scenarios to properly categorize your bank transactions.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.

This does not work in my case. When I attempt to import into my account in QB2020 DT, it does not show my account.

Hi there, lbrande.

To import Webconnect files in Quickbooks Desktop (QBDT), the file should have .qbo extension. To do that, there are third-party applications in the Marketplace. Then follow the steps provided by my colleague Rea_M.

You can still refer to Rea's article, as it has the complete instructions on how to successfully import your bank transactions in QBDT. However, if the issue is still there, I suggest contacting our QBDT Care team to investigate further.

I'm only a few clicks away if you have additional concern. Take care.

Republic Bank & Trust no longer supports IE11 but will allow Microsoft Edge. Will QuickBooks be updating this anytime soon or will it continue to be a manual import? This has impacted several of my clients' books.

Thanks for joining the thread, @RWipperman.

At this time, I recommend continuing manual importing the bank transactions into QuickBooks Desktop until the Bank is supported by IE11. I'm going to submit feedback to our Product Development Team about your concern adding additional web browsers QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. Have a beautiful day!

Please consider changing the Default Browser in QBDT 2020 Pro.  Many Major Financial Institutions no longer support Internet Explorer 11.  This means Bank Feeds no longer work nor activation of new feeds.

As many people on this thread has noted with Chase:
Chase states:

This looks poorly upon Intuit.  It makes one question "Why should users upgrade every year?"  "How secure is Quickbooks?" "Why is Intuit using a browser that was released with Windows 7 especially when the End of Life of W...

To rely on Internet Explorer 11 was released in 2009 is akin to telling folks to use Quickbooks 2009.  The workaround solution of manually downloading transactions is not what your customers want.  They want to have a modern browser support.

Please consider making available Chrome, Edge and Firefox.  If your engineers want data here it is.

It is absolutely ridiculous that we cannot download transactions.  None of my banks or credit card accounts will allow using IE.

Part of the reason I purchased the QB update was to be able to continue to download transactions.

@lbrande

Hi, were you able to get this fixed?  The reason that it doesn't "see" your account as an option to import is almost always because the QB account is already activated for bank feeds.  You would need to go to the Chart of Accounts and edit it to deactivate the old feed link, and then it should show up as an available account to import into.  The other option is to import to a "new" bank account and then merge the 2 accounts after you have accepted the appropriate transactions.  Hope that helps.

Well... although I posted my concern before like rest of you, today was the first day the bank locked me out  from downloading transactions directly to QuickBooks desktop   I am beyond frustrated - I am a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor and going to give it up // not renew as I can not support clients with this situation.   Not every client wants to do QBOLE // some are still in desktop.  The extra steps to download from the bank/ save / then import is BEYOND CRAZY.    I'm writing this while in the middle of a major storm fearing I will loose power - that is how frustrated I am.

I hope the Feedback team sees this thread and opens the ability to change browsers. My bank has locked me out of downloading transactions through bank feeds now. It takes longer and there are more steps involved to manually import transactions. It is inefficient and  and completely avoidable if QB team would make this simple change.

-VERY FRUSTRATED!! :(

This should be taken care of by QuickBooks immediately.  Why can't we change browsers?  Do you realize the problems Intuit is causing by not fixing this?  Intuit knew Microsoft was going to stop supporting IE.

QB Team, it seems like you are supporting browsers which are at end of life and no longer supported by the developer/manufacturer as well.

However, Banks have decided to support more secure browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge.

Here's my inference

  1. By supporting older version, and exposing the QB to  vulnerable components such a browser - You are risking my Financial Data, and even the system to attacks.
  2. I'm using a Desktop Version, and I have paid QB for the license to support all the features.
  3. There was NO disclaimer about supporting vulnerable browser versions.

Given the above points, please refund my money for not providing feature #2.

If there are any breach of data resulting from vulnerable components and/or browsers, QB must own for it.

Thanks.

Hello there, SuperBatMan,

I understand how important it is to keep your data safe and secure. QuickBooks Desktop works best with Internet Explorer. The connection from IE to QBDT is guaranteed to be safe.

For the meantime, I suggest visiting QuickBooks Blog. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features. Here's the link: The QuickBooks Blog.

For refund requests, I recommend contacting our QBDT support They will be able to provide you options. To reach the support team, open your QuickBooks and press the F1 key and then click Contact Us.

Let me know if you have other questions.

It doesn't work with IE anymore.  When you try to use bank feeds, it tells you that IE is no longer supported by Microsoft and to use another browser.

This response is to Mary Lurlee M.

I just took a second to open the link to the blog you posted. OK, it is nice, but does NOT address the concerns of the posters to this thread.  This thread is about the ISSUE with QBDT and connecting to the banks.  This year has been brutal for most of us in business based on state shutdowns and trying to keep our business running on lean budgets.  We do not need to have yet another hurdle.  I recently responded to a survey put out by my bank regarding connecting to QB, and I'm hoping they are going to be proactive. Currently, I am forced to do a manual download / and then import through QB utilities. It works for the moment, but who knows what the future holds.

Hi there, Gene-Lilley.

I know that this hasn't been easy for you and your business.

Please know that we're already aware that Microsoft no longer provides security updates or technical support for Internet Explorer. While we're working to integrate QuickBooks with other web browsers, you'll want to consider manually importing your bank transactions. This way, you'll be able to keep your bank accounts accurate and up-to-date.

Feel free to follow the steps provided by my colleague, Rea_M (see above). Once your bank transactions are in, it's to time to match and categorize them.

I also encourage visiting our blog from time to time to stay current with our product updates and enhancements.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please don't hesitate to drop a reply below. Stay safe and healthy.

I am a QB Pro Advisor.  I am aware of how to export and import bank transactions, but thanks.  I'm simply disappointed that Intuit wasn't out front on this as it's been known for some time that Microsoft would no longer support IE.

We just converted to a new online banking provider that does not support IE. Microsoft doesn’t support IE. This is absurd that intuit refuses to add a modern browser like Chrome or Firefox...heck, Edge would be fine and it’s a MS product. This is unacceptable and those looking to convert, heed my warning.

Yes, I agree that QBDT should work with something other than IE, since IE is not a viable option.  Will research and convert to ANY other system that works with EDGE and doesn't add work.  Intuit: JUST FIX IT
