I see you want to give the clients access to their balance or record payments in QuickBooks Online, @KenRea. I've got some insights and workarounds to share with you.
The functionality mentioned above is currently unavailable in QBO.
Alternatively, you can add an account summary to progress invoices. This includes the following:
Here's how you can do it:
Please be aware that if the transactions that make up the balance forward are older than a year, the account summary won't appear on an invoice.
In addition, you can generate and send Balance Forward statements to give your clients a full transaction history.

Mich,
I think we are actually looking for a Client Portal that is interfaced with Quickbooks. Then Invoices I create in the office QB Customer/Job is display in a password protected Portal that our Client can Open, see their Invoice and past payments and make a new payment. This payment is then linked back to the office QB Customer/Job to display and update it.
I found one that has a high monthly fee. For a small business with 1000 travelers who want to see their account online, this App would cost us near $200 per month. More than we can afford.
We'll keep looking for a solution or find solutions others are using.
I can recommend a free invoicing app with the customer portal feature to integrate with QBO. But it doesn't support QB Payment. You have to accept payments with other options (e.g Paypal, Stripe, Authorize.net).
