Equity Accounts

I decided to open a Money Market account tied to my business checking to hold my payroll and withholding taxes so that they don't get used up in the day to day transactions.

I put it as an equity account but the program want me to say where it go on the tax form.

What catagory do I use.  Would it be under 'opening equity balance?'

A money market account should be set up as a bank account.  It is not an equity account.

Welcome back to the Community, @Jonnybegood

I agree with Rainflurry, you can use or set up a bank account to track your Checking, Savings, and Money Market accounts. With this, I’ll help you with setting this up so you can begin with entering and tracking this type of transactions:

  1. From the left navigation pane, select the Accounting menu.
  2. Select the Chart of Accounts tab, and click the New button.
  3. From the Account type, select Banks.
  4. In the Save account under section, select the option where you want to post the transactions.
  5. Enter the Account NameDescription, and the Starting date and opening balance.
  6. Lastly, click Save.

I also recommend you seek advice from your accountant to guide you further with setting up the bank account in QuickBooks Online.

Once done, you can reconcile your account to balance this and ensure that your books are accurate.
