Hi, I need to know if I can do this and if so how. I have QB's 2005 that has a lot of inventory on it, and I need to get ALL that information onto QB's 2022 Mac. How do I do this, so that the current information on 2022 doesn't get screwed up, and so that ALL the information on the older version comes over or gets imported into the new version?
Hi there, @Lalemand. I've got your back, and I'll ensure you can use your data from the old version of QuickBooks to newer versions of QBDT for mac.
Before anything else, know that you're doing the right thing by asking a question here in the Community. You can export your data to excel and then import it to QuickBooks Desktop 2022. This way, you can save time while safely getting your data into the latest version of our program. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. To begin, here's how:
1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
2. Go to Lists, and then select Items.
3. Click Excel, and then select Export All Items.
Once done, import it to your QuickBooks Desktop 2022. See this article for further guidelines: Import data into QuickBooks for Mac.
Also, before you continue with the process, I'd recommend, creating a backup copy of your company file. This way, you can still retain your company file in case you encounter issues along the process. See this article for more information: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

Your gap is too wide and I'm not sure you can upgrade your company file in one jump. Can you still open your file on QBD 2005? Which MacOS do you run on the old machine? If you are running on 10.12 (Sierra), I can share the trial version for QBD 2014. Otherwise, consider to purchase a 3rd party upgrade service.
Ok, if I have QB software from each version, how would I go about getting all (or as many as possible0, of the information from each version into the newest version. So my end goal, is as much QB information, invoices, clients, transactions, estimates … from old files, into the newest one.
- Export, then import?
- File type(s)
Mac based
You need to create a backup file on one version and restore it on another version.
"Restore" as in import? I don't see restore as an option on QB 2022?
So I want to get each version of QB's I have to get brought into the newest one, so that I'll end up with all the information from the past 15 years of business, on one QB file.

A 2005 file is very old and may have issues that have appeared over time - we've fixed a lot of things over the last 18 years (the current QB Mac version is 2023 - you should start with that).
But... we do test older files for import. I suggest you download the trial software for free from qblittlesquare.com and just go ahead and see if it will open the 2005 file. If it does compare reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, etc) and try running it simultaneously with your 2005 version for a week or two. You should get a feel for how well it worked. Also run a verify and possibly rebuild.
If it all checks out then purchase 2023 and you are on your way.
