fatal error

On Friday, my QBs Pro 2018 gave me a fatal error message. I did not get a screen shot of it. Right after that, I could no longer use the Banking button to go to my bank account and F1 button and Chart of Accounts do not work. Also when I try to run a report, I get an "unrecoverable error" message and the app crashes. I had my tech guy reinstall QBs Pro 2018 and it worked beautifully. I closed it out and when I came back and opened the company file, QBs updated and I am back to my original problem. Any ideas please? I am using a Surface Pro 4.

Hello there, @KT55.

Let me step in and assist you in fixing the "unrecoverable error" on your QuickBooks Desktop.

You may receive an unrecoverable error once your QuickBooks Desktop account is an outdated version, or you missed some Windows update on your computer. Let me assist you in updating QuickBooks and installing Windows update.

You can update your QuickBooks Desktop account manually. Here's how:

  1. Close your company files and QuickBooks.
  2. Go to the Windows Start icon.
  3. Search for QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. Right-click the app and select Run as administrator.
  5. In the No Company Open screen, click the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  6. Go to the Options tab.
  7. Select Mark All and then click Save.
  8. Go to the Update Now option and choose the Reset Update checkbox.
  9. Hit the Get Updates button when you're ready.

I'll also add this article for more detailed information: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once done, review the “how to manually update” sections of this Microsoft article and update your version of Windows.

Another troubleshooting step on fixing this error is to run QuickBooks Tool Hub on your computer. Select the Program Problems option where it can fix performance issues, problems opening the program, Error 6123, and program crashing/stopped working.

If you have follow-up questions, feel free to leave a message in the comment section. I'll be happier to help. Take care, and have a good day.

Thank you so much. Was online with Quickbooks help this morning and they couldn't correct the issue. I followed your directions for updating Quickbooks and it worked like a charm. Thank you again.
