Buy now & saveI have a layout complaint. I'm using Windows 10 with QB Desktop updated version.
When I open the program the home screen is scrambled. I have My Shortcuts on the left, but the home screen opens much larger than allowable screen space. To get it to fit I have to close it and reopen it, or from Preferences select to not start the Home Screen on opening and then open it after program starts.
I've tried saving the settings from Edit > Preferences > Desktop View > My Preferences. I can repeatedly select Save Current Desktop, and it will still open scrambled. I can select Save On Closing and immediately close it, and it will still open scrambled.
A new issue started happening not that long ago. I have the Search Company or Help text box open at the top of My Shortcuts. When the program opens it actually creates two instances of this and places the new one in a white bar all the way across the screen. To eliminate it I have to select View > Top Icon Bar then select View > Side Icon Bar. It will completely redraw the page, including the Home Screen and layout as I want.
Now I'm going to get pissy. I pay $1,000 a year for a program and QB can't even get it to start properly. UNBELIEVEABLE!
@neyerbj "When I open the program the home screen is scrambled."
I'm not sure what you're describing here; can you provide a screenshot?
"A new issue started happening not that long ago."
Unfortunately, this one is more about file damage. I see this fairly often in old QB company files. You may want to see about doing some repairs and rebuilding on your company file; sooner the better.
Incomplete. How do I repair the file?
Incomplete. How do I repair the file?
Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Any unresolved error messages?
Both issues are shown. The Desktop is off the screen to the right and the search box is across the top.
Open the sample file. Did you encounter the same problem?
Are you working on a notebook or PC?
This is now the 6th time I've tried replying to this post and it won't accept my response. UNBEIVEABLE! Intuit is a piece of crap.
As I originally stated it's a PC running Windows 10.
The Help box problem occurred after a QB update. THANK YOU, INTUIT!
The Home screen issue has been going on for several months. I just attributed it to QB being crap.
A couple of times a year I have to give my accountant his copy and figured it may have been introduced then. A couple of years ago QB installed several new accounts and messed up the balances after reinstalling my accountant's adjustments. I had to give him another copy and he cleaned it up. He attributed it to QB being a mess. He said he'd seen that happen previously.
FINALLY, my reply was accepted. I guess I puckered my a##s correctly. I'm having to bother people with problems that should not be happening.
I want to thank everyone for helping me.
I worked for 41 years with a company that would not have tolerated stuff like this happening with our programs.
I have no idea what you're referring to or where to find it.

Find what? Verify/Rebuild Data utility or the sample file?
After running the utility, I set up the desktop the way I want it and then selected the save desktop. I then closed QB and reopened it as the problems occur at boot up. And . . . it fixed nothing.
I ran the Too Hub, which was supposed to fix things, it didn't. Here's a real kicker, it prompted me to fill out a survey on how well it worked and opened a web site. The web site had been deleted. Way to go Intuit.
Run your QB and you will find "No Company Open" window. Choose "Open a sample file".
If you are still seeing the same Home Page Layout issue, then there is something wrong with the Display settings in Windows and it is conflicting with QB. You can try adjusting the Scale and Display resolution. We may encounter this issue when using a PC with a high definition monitor or there is a problem with our graphics card driver.
Didn't resolve anything. If you do something to make the screen redraw, it will adjust the size of the Home screen to fit the monitor space. The only way I can get rid of the separate white help bar, is to select View > Top Icon Bar then select View > Side Icon Bar. QB will then redraw the screen to correct layout.
I have to pay $1000 a year and QB can't even get it to open correctly. This shouldn't be hard fix.
Can you reinstall QB on another machine to isolate the problem?
Otherwise, you should consider switching to an old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
