Hello, We have many customers in different locations with the same exact name. When these customers come into QBO from Shopify how do they get placed in QBO since you can't have customers with the same name?
Thanks!
Hello there, @Jacabean.
Thanks for posting your question here in the Community. I'm here to provide information about having duplicate names.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can change the display name or add special characters to the customer's name. This way, you can use the same name as your customer.
Here's how to change the display name:
1. Hover over the Sales tab, and then select Customers.
2. Click on the name of the duplicate customer.
3. Choose Edit in the top right corner.
4. Change the Display name as format to "last, first,' or you can also use a middle initial.
5. When you're done, go to Save & Close.
Lastly, here's an article you can read for ideas about what other function you can utilize with the list of your customers: Manage your customer list.
If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
Thank you for your reply. These names will be coming in from Shopify so if they have the same name as another customer how will QBO be able to match them?
Hello there, @Jacabean.
When QuickBooks imports entries from Shopify in the bank feed, it tries to find a match with any QuickBooks transactions already entered.
If you agree with the match information shown in the row, click the Match under the Action column. This will match with the existing QuickBooks transaction.
If you need to correct it, you can review the matching records found in QuickBooks to match the payee, amount, and other details. Here's how:
I'm also adding here some recourses that you can use in reconciling and categorizing your bank transactions in QuickBooks Online:
