Journal Entry Upload

I need to make a large journal entry in multiple company files (large entries - multiple lines). THe entry is the same in each (intercompany), just need to reverse the DR and CR. Is there a way I can make the entry on an excel spreadsheet and upload it to the files, as opposed to manually entring it multiple times?

Journal Entry Upload

I'll share another option that can help you upload your journal entry, JGDeyoung.

In QuickBooks Desktop, you can only import Accounts, Items, Customers, and Vendor Lists using the QuickBooks Import Excel and CSV toolkit.

You can use the Intuit Interchange Format (.IIF) files to import your sales invoices, payment journals, and general ledger journals. These data make it easier to transfer data to and from different platforms.

Please note Intuit does not provide technical support for creating or importing IIF files. If the files came from a different app, you need to ask them for help.

Here's how:

  1. Open QBDT with login privileges (right-click on the QuickBooks icon, and then click Run as administrator).
  2. Make sure QBDT is in Single-user mode.
  3. Go to the File menu, and then choose Utilities.
  4. Choose Import, and then IIF Files.
  5. Select the IIF file you want to import, and then Open.
  6. Click OK to continue.

For more details, open this article: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Also, these articles will help you learn more about IIF files and managing your journal entries in QBDT:

Don’t hesitate to respond on this thread if you have additional questions or concerns with the import process. I'm here anytime to help. Always take care!

Thank you! I am not able to find a template to use - QB obviously won't just take my personally created excel file. Do you have tips on a template, where to find one, or how to make one?

I can share a sample template you can use in uploading your journal entries, JGDeyoung.

To get started, download the .IIF import kit to access sample files for reference. Navigate to the article titled IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers, and scroll down to locate the Download and install the .IIF import kit section. Then, click the Download Kit button. Proceed to the following steps below:

  1. Open the downloaded folder.

  2. Click IIF Example Files.

  3. Select QB 2007 & Enterprise 7.0 and later.

  4. Tap the Journal Entry folder.

  5. Select the sample file to view the template to follow.

Furthermore, you can generate reports to track and analyze your finances in QuickBooks.

I'll promptly provide the necessary information if you have more concerns about importing or exporting your data. Lay down the details below. I'm available 24/7.

Yes indeed, josei. We can import the data to upload your journal entry.

Have you taken the steps outlined in the earlier recommendations provided by my colleague? If so, did you run into any errors while attempting those suggestions? If you have already followed those instructions and are unable to resolve the issue on your end, please let me know so we can explore further options.

Please know that you can only import a certain number of items from the list. We can use the Intuit Interchange Format (.IIF) files to import your sales invoices, payment journals, and general ledger journals. These data make it easier to transfer data to and from different platforms.

For more information, visit this link: Export, import, and edit IIF files. This resource will show the list of transactions you can import.

Moreover, you have the option to customize financial reports to focus on the details that matter the most to your business. Then, memorize them to save their customized settings.

If you have other concerns regarding uploading journal entries in QuickBooks Desktop, simply add them to the thread. We'll be here to help.

@josei

If you are not familiar IIF, you can prepare JE data in XLS format and use an importer tool. It's $199 one time license + you can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a partner.
