I’m using QB Self-Employed to track mileage on iOS. I’ve been using it for well over a year, and in the last couple months it has started using TONS of data. This period is >8GB alone. It was not doing this a few months back, and my driving habits haven’t changed at all. Does anyone know the cause of this or how to fix it? I don’t want to set my location to “while using” and remember open the app every time I have a work trip and not a personal one, but I’m not sure what else to do.
Hello, @Kat0.
I want to ensure you have no issues using the QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) mobile app.
To start, may I know if you're tracking your mileage? Normally, the average amount of data used when using the QBSE app is 5MB. But, it would still differ according on your device.
For the time being, I have few troubleshooting steps to help this sorted out. First, let's make sure your app is working properly we need to ensure that the app is updated into the latest version.
You can also use Apple's steps to update your app.
To fix your mileage tracking issues, you can check out this article: Fix mileage tracking issues in QuickBooks Self-Employed for iOS
You can also check out this article that can guide you to use the QuickBooks Self-Employed mobile app to track your business miles.
I'll address any other questions you might have for your Self-Employed account. Just reply to this thread. I'll be there for you.
Yes I had automatic tracking on and my settings set to “Always” for location services. I tried switching it to “while using” after this discovery, and it would t let me even just open the app and manually track a drive.
Unfortunately it is up to date, and I have checked every setting possible. This has also been happening for a few months and the app has had multiple automatic updates in that time period I’m sure. And it’s no typo - the app used >8GB. I streamed YouTube for >3 hours during that period and it used far less data.
I reset my cellular usage tracker, and it used 234MB in the same time period my active GPS I use for navigation used 7.7MB. I am on wifi when I’m not traveling so that makes this usage even more bizarre. I have no idea what’s going on with the app but it’s destroying my data, and now due to that is interfering with the functionality of the app I need to use for my clients as a self-employed individual, so I will be canceling my subscription.
I hope you get an answer to this, I am having the same issue. I have 8gb of data on my cellular plan and this app suddenly chewed up 6 gob in the first week after my data plan renewal date. I turned cellular off as well until I can get this sorted out. My data plan only allows for 3G or LTE even though my phone can technically work on 5G. I’m in Canada.
Hello there, Mtrott.
It isn't the kind of experience we want you to come across.
Have you tried the steps shared by my colleague, AbegailS_? If so, yet, the same issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our phone support team. One of our agents has a tool that can verify the issue further. You can do so by clicking them through the Assistant tab.
Once the issue is resolved, you can check these references as your guide in managing your trips:
Post here any time of updates or if you have other concerns other than mileage tracking in QBSE. I'll be right here to help.
I’m also having this issue. Self employed app used over 1 gb in less than a week. It never used to eat up this much data.
I appreciate you for chiming in on this conversation, @Skool1. Allow me to share some tips to reduce your data consumption when using the QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) mobile app to track your mileage.
First, make sure your QBSE app is regularly updated to the latest version. Most updates contain performance enhancements and new features that optimize your app's data use. Also, check your device's general location settings and uncheck the option to run the app in the background while not in use.
If you're using an iOS device, you may turn on the Low Data Mode to reduce data usage. Here's how:
However, if you have an Android device, I recommend searching the instructions in your browser since the procedure varies by device.
In addition, refer to these articles in case you encounter errors when tracking your mileage using the QBSE mobile app:
