Quickbooks aborting when computer goes to sleep

Our QB is hosted on a server and our setup has been the same for years.  A couple of months ago, this problem started-  when our computers go to sleep for approx. 15-20 minutes, Quickbooks aborts.  We have had no changes in our setup and our IT team cannot find any problem on our end.  Why is this happening?   We just upgraded to 23 this week hoping it would correct the problem and it did not.

*Please do not suggest that we use the stay logged in for 1 (or more days) feature.  This does not solve our problem.  All this does is keep us logged in even with QB shuts down.  This is a security issue.

Quickbooks aborting when computer goes to sleep

Hi amontford,

I appreciate your effort to seek help from an IT professional to understand why your QuickBooks aborts when your computer goes into sleep mode. Let me add a few details.

The internet connection is disabled when your computer goes into sleep mode, and eventually disconnects QuickBooks from the station computers. This is why you received an abort message. Other reasons could be random issues in the program, your firewall/antivirus blocking QuickBooks processes, damaged QBWUSER.ini file, which might have already been checked by your IT guy. Nevertheless, here are some steps you can do to resolve this behavior.

Step 1: Download and install the install diagnostic tool located within the tool hub

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the folder where you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the installation finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Step 2: Disable the antivirus/firewall for a brief moment. Please refer to your antivirus manual.

Step 3: Rename QBWUSER.ini file. You'll want to follow Solution 3 in this article: Fix issues when QuickBooks has stopped working.

Let me know if you have any other questions about receiving an abort message. I'm just around to continue to help.

Thanks for the reply.  I will check in to these solutions.

But just to be clear, we have used QB for many many years and we have NEVER had the problem that our QB aborts when our computers go to sleep and we are NOT connected via internet so that's not the problem.  This is a new issue.  I just need to determine why it's happening and how to fix it.

Thanks for getting back with the Community, amontford.

If the troubleshooting steps mentioned by JessT don't solve your problem with QuickBooks aborting, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while using QuickBooks.

Thanks for the information, but none of this solved our problem.  My IT people called QB help and they also were unable to solve the problem.

I appreciate you getting back to us and sharing updates about the issue, amontford. Things have been challenging for you and it's not the sort of experience we want you to have.

Let me turn your worries into hope by providing another solution. Disabling or turning off the Anti-Virus application and Window firewall should resolve the abort error. These programs are designed to block security threats and certain programs from running on your system. This can cause QuickBooks to keep aborting.

Therefore, you need to disable them so that they can allow updates and other information to download automatically. After making this change, restart your computer to allow the changes to take place.

If you've already turned them off, let's try to restore QuickBooks from the system's backup. While doing so, create an Admin user for your Windows.

Follow the steps from Microsoft to create Windows users and give them admin rights:

For Windows Small Business Server 2011 and 2008 R2.

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Go to All Programs, open Windows Small Business Server, then Windows SBS Console.
  3. Select Users and Groups, then proceed to the Add a new user account tab.
  4. Fill out the user info, then follow the Add a New User Account wizard.
  5. Give the new user administrator rights.
  6. When you're done, click Finish.

If you’re still facing the issue, the installation of the recent update may damage. Try the Clean install process to fix company file issues.

I want to make sure the aborting issues will stop so you can use QuickBooks smoothly. Get back to me on how this goes by commenting below. I'll stay around whenever you need more help with this. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead!
