Buy now & saveGood evening all, I was recently asked to setup Quickbooks database server so multiple users can access a company file simultaneously. This is my first rodeo with QB database server and luckily I was able to follow instructions and set everything up. I have a network drive that hosts the company file and multiple users are able to access this from their workstations. I also have the database server manager running on the same server that'd hosting the drive. My question however is that why do we need this database server manager? Can't I simply share the network drive and then simply open the file on Quickbooks software and tell it to open the file from the network share?
Thank you all in advance

You can but it only works for single user mode. You need QB DB Server Manager to run QBD on the multiuser mode.
Hello there, @Rickysingh2011.
I'd like to shed some light about how the database server manager works in QuickBooks Desktop.
QuickBooks Database Server Manager lets you share your company files with other computers over your network. It also helps you monitor your multi-user network. This lets you and users on your network work together in QBDT from multiple computers.
When you set up a network, you need to have QuickBooks Database Server Manager running so users can access your company files. Your network server can work but for single user only. The database will serve as the backbone of your network in order for the multi-user set up to work.
To learn more about the utilizing the database server manager and the multi-user set up, please scan through these resources:
Know that you can always get back to me if you have any other questions with QBDT. I got you covered. Have a great night!

Thank you for clarifying. This is all I wanted to know. Cheers!
