Quickbooks pro, No company found issue issue

Hi, we have been using quickbooks for years now but ever since we have updated to the newest version we will get on and sometimes it will say "no company found". Luckily we have been backing everything up but its still a minor issue that happens multiple times a week

Quickbooks pro, No company found issue issue

I'll help you rectify this issue, JamesBrinson97.

The error message you've encountered means that QuickBooks is unable to create a connection with the company file. There are several reasons that cause the program to prompt this error message. Check out the pointers I've listed below:

  • The path to the QuickBooks company file is changed as the file is moved to a different location on the computer.
  • The file has been deleted accidentally from the local or network storage.
  • Network connectivity issues when using QuickBooks in Multi-user mode.
  • Selecting the wrong option to open a particular file type.

If you are accessing your QuickBooks file saved locally on the same computer, you can perform a wildcard search for all company files to isolate the issue. Start by going to the server computer and then click the Search icon in the taskbar. Next, enter these keywords in the search bar and make sure to include the asterisk (*) before the extension type to ensure the search works correctly.

  • *.qbw (Working Files)
  • *.qbb (Back Up Files)
  • *.qba (Accountants Copy Files)
  • *.qbx (Accountants Transfer Files)
  • *.qby (Accountants Change Files)

Once the file is found, you'll have to take note of its location and then open it in your QuickBooks Desktop. Here's how to open a company file or an accountant's copy:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Click Open a Company File, then Hit Next.
  3. Choose the appropriate company file.
  4. Select Open.

Follow these steps to restore a backup file:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Restore a Backup File, then hit Next.
  3. Select a Local backup, then select the appropriate company file.
  4. Click Next, then select the location where you’d like to save the restored.
  5. Select Save.

Here's how to restore an Accountant's Copy Transfer file:

  1. From the File menu, select Open or Restore a company.
  2. Choose Convert and Accountant's Copy Transfer File, then hit Next.
  3. Click Next again if the What the Accountant's Copy Can and Can't Do window is displayed.
  4. Choose the appropriate transfer file, then click Open.
  5. Select the location where you’d like to save the Accountant's Copy File, then hit Save.

However, if you're unable to find your company files, I recommend consulting your local IT support to help locate the data. Also, if you're accessing your QuickBooks file over a network, you can follow the troubleshooting steps on this guide: Company file is missing or cannot be found.

I'm also adding this article to help resolve common errors in your company file: Fix company file and network issues with QuickBooks File Doctor.

Don't hesitate to let know if you have any other concerns or additional questions. I'm always available and ready to help you out.
