Question

Data Transfer; Payroll

I initially transferred my data from 2019 Desktop Pro to the new 2022 QB Online.  The payroll would not work.  When I would enter my info it kept telling me my numbers were wrong although they weren't.  I went back and did my payroll on the desktop version but when I try to re-upload my info from Desktop to Online it won't do it.  It will start the transfer and then stop when its about 85% complete.

I'd like to completely wipe out the online data and start over, but not sure if the Desktop data will transfer at all now.

Help???

I got your back, Tackett0898.

Let's work together to move your data to QBO the second time around.

An incomplete export or being stuck at a certain percentage can be due to a lost network connection or data issues. Please be sure you have a stable connection. Then, run the Verify and Rebuild data utilities to check and fix any data issues your file has. You can follow the steps in this article: How to resolve issues when importing from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows to QuickBooks Online.

I would also like to share that a good indication of successful data transfer is when both online and desktop platforms have the same Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet reports. You can run them on both platforms after exporting your data. Just set the date range to All.

In QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Select Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet.

In QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Click the Reports menu.
  2. Company Financial.
  3. Select Profit and Loss Standard or Balance Sheet.

You can also check out the video tutorials for QBO in case you need references in the future.

Let me know if you have questions along the way. I'm just right here to continue helping you.

Thank you for the help.  I did everything twice and the data still won’t complete the transfer.  It gets 90-95% finished and freezes.  The connection is good and QB says there is nothing wrong with the data.  Any suggestions?

is there a way to revert my online data to the day I initially transferred it the first time?

I have payroll due on Friday and as of now no way to do it.

You should be able to migrate data without any issue. Try running the Verify/Rebuild Data utility.

I've got another way you can perform to resolve the issue, Tackett0898.

You can try condensing your company file. This helps reduce the overall size of your file and migrate it to QBO. I'll walk you through the steps on how to do it:

  1. From the QuickBooks File menu, select Utilities and then Condense Data.
  2. Click on Yes to the message Budget data may be moved during cleanup. Do you want to continue anyway?
  3. In the Condense Data window, select Transactions before a specific date.
  4. Use the Date field to select a date. QuickBooks will remove closed transactions on or before the date you choose.
  5. Hit Next.
  6. Select a method to summarize the transactions you're removing, then Next. If you're not sure, tap on Help me choose.
  7. (Optional) Click on any of the checkboxes for the dialog boxes that follow, then hit Next.
  8. Select Begin Condense.

If you can successfully migrate them, ensure to run the financial report suggested by my peer Jess to ensure the accuracy of your data.
