Question

Exporting / Importing 2 versions

Hi, I need to know if I can do this and if so how. I have QB's 2005 that has a lot of inventory on it, and I need to get ALL that information onto QB's 2022 Mac. How do I do this, so that the current information on 2022 doesn't get screwed up, and so that ALL the information on the older version comes over or gets imported into the new version?

Hi there, @ncee. I've got your back, and I'll ensure you can use your data from the old version of QuickBooks to newer versions of QBDT for mac.

Before anything else, know that you're doing the right thing by asking a question here in the Community. You can export your data to excel and then import it to QuickBooks Desktop 2022. This way, you can save time while safely getting your data into the latest version of our program. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. To begin, here's how:

1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company.
2. Go to Lists, and then select Items.
3. Click Excel, and then select Export All Items.

Once done, import it to your QuickBooks Desktop 2022. See this article for further guidelines: Import data into QuickBooks for Mac.

Also, before you continue with the process, I'd recommend, creating a backup copy of your company file. This way, you can still retain your company file in case you encounter issues along the process. See this article for more information: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company file.

In addition, I've got you this article to help you get started with QBDT Mac 2022: QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2022 User’s Guide.

You can also visit this page to make sure that your computer meets the system requirements of QuickBooks Desktop 2022, and to avoid experiencing any issues with your company file: System requirements for QuickBooks Mac Plus 2022.

@ncee, if you need further assistance with this. Feel free to get back to me by clicking the REPLY button below. I'll be more than happy to help you out again. Take care, and enjoy your weekend.

@ncee

Your gap is too wide and I'm not sure you can upgrade your company file in one jump. Can you still open your file on QBD 2005? Which MacOS do you run on the old machine? If you are running on 10.12 (Sierra), I can share the trial version for QBD 2014. Otherwise, consider to purchase a 3rd party upgrade service.

Ok, if I have QB software from each version, how would I go about getting all (or as many as possible0, of the information from each version into the newest version. So my end goal, is as much QB information, invoices, clients, transactions, estimates … from old files, into the newest one.

- Export, then import?

- File type(s)

"Restore" as in import? I don't see restore as an option on QB 2022?

So I want to get each version of QB's I have to get brought into the newest one, so that I'll end up with all the information from the past 15 years of business, on one QB file.

Hello, Lalemand.

I'll share additional information to successfully bring your data from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2015 to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2022.

Fiat is correct. If you have QuickBooks software for each version, you can restore a backup copy of your company file in this succeeding format form QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2005 to:

  1. 2008
  2. 2011
  3. 2014
  4. 2017
  5. 2019
  6. 2022

You can follow these steps to restore and upgrade QuickBooks Desktop for Mac company files.

Here's how:

  1. First of all, ensure that you are logged out of your company file.
  2. Launch a newer version of QuickBooks Mac Desktop.
  3. Go to the File menu.
  4. Select Open or restore company.
  5. Log in as a company admin.
  6. Browse your company file. choose your company and tap on Open.
  7. You'll be prompted to update or convert the QB company file, make sure you click on the “Upgrade” option.
  8. Choose ‘OK‘ on the following dialog that states the file has been upgraded.

Create a backup copy and repeat the same process until you reach QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2022 version.
